I think the missing words are "let's make jam when life gives us a peach" this song is so effortlessly cool and beautiful |

| Spoon – My Little Japanese Cigarette Case Lyrics | 17 years ago |

the first thing everyone's mind seems to jump to when a song is cryptic is that it must be about drugs. i really don't think that' the case with this song. i'm reading Chronicles by Bob Dylan and i just got to a part where he's talking about his uncles who fought in WWII and they all brought back various things-- one being a Japanese cigarette case. He also says that all his uncles carried on with civilian life like nothing ever happened. I had a eureka moment, because i realized this clicks PERFECTLY with this song. The case is a memento from war, and he wants to block out all his memories of battle. When you look in the mirror you think about who you are, and particularly disturbing experiences in war would have to be so tied in with the soldier's identity from that point on. I just picture the veteran staring himself down and trying to make that part of him disappear. It's definitely not a stretch to imagine that Brit Daniels has read Chronicles either, so that further backs up my idea. Any thoughts anyone? |

| of Montreal – Nonpareil of Favor Lyrics | 17 years ago |

the first line of the song is a perfect beginning to the album, because it sets up a key theme/idea of the record-- "My lover, I've been donating time to review all the misinterpretations that define me and you" Barnes wants to throw away all the stupid cliches that are always used to describe love, because they don't describe real love at all (they're "misinterpretations"). This explains the uncompromising honesty and sexuality of many of the lyrics on the record. Barnes is expressing the feelings and thoughts that people really have in relationships but are uncomfortable to talk about. The fact that he uses the generic term "lover" is important too, because he's saying the concept of a lover has long been misconstrued. |

| the lyrics at the end always through me off, but then I realized it's supposed to be describing the dream. Once you look at it that way, the absurdity makes total sense. | |
