@[Laggard:41527] thanks for the info. Now the song makes so much more sense. The final lyrics “but it’s all over now and with my knife” make clear it’s about killing someone he liked. Just wondering how a band from North Ireland was aware of something that happened in the USA in 1980. Wonder if it’s been on international news… |

@[Lyrics2Deep:7665] It certainly makes more sense that the meaning of weed. Probably most Americans thought it must have been about weed because the band's from Holland. :)
And yeah, the misprinting certainly didn't help either. I guess QT got the real meaning of the song and that's the reason he used it for Reservoir Dogs, going about a heist that went wrong... |

Ghost Reveries was initially intended to be a concept album, with numerous tracks linking together a story of a man's turmoil after committing an unconscionable act, symbolised by killing his own mother.
So after the act of killing his own mother, the main character is wondering if he can still live with himself. Or whether God will forgive him or that he will have to pay for his sins.. |

I am pretty sure .3 is meant as a caliber for a gun.
7.62 mm is typically .30 inch caliber.
The lyrics are about weapons, are they not?
So why look for a far fetched meaning if there's an easy one? [Occam's Razor] |

One of the best PT songs ever ! Together with "Even Less" that can both be found on the RECORDINGS album. Actually the original RECORDINGS album was limited to 20,000 CD's and, believe it or not, composed out of B-side material that didn't make it on to the STUPID DREAM or LIGHTBULB SUN albums. I do agree that some of PT's B-sides, EP's and rarities are also some of the best songs they have ever made. Fortunately RECORDINGS is now available again in a nice digibook format, so we can all get our hands on another 9 great PT songs ! Maybe nice to mention that the track UNTITLED is actually more or less BUYING NEW SOUL instrumental. I also do believe this song is about writer's block and against going main stream and sell out. Stay true to yourself and to what you like and do best and it will all be much better in the end. Steven Wilson, thank you so much for giving us these great songs! If I would have a hero it would be you. |

I just got home of 2 exiting nights of Porcupine Tree at the 013 in Tilburg, The Netherlands. At the 2nd night SW actually said that "Way Out Of Here" was indeed about a girl who comitted suicide on the traintracks while listening to a Porcupine Tree song on her iPod. Actually her morther will be attending the indigO2 show on Sunday October 19th in London. This is also the date that the girl from the song would have turned 18 years old. Isn't his bizare? I already had some kind of idea what the song was about, but this really touched me even more! Wow, what a song, what kind of song writing and one big chapeau for SW of being so "into this world".
And yes, I completely agree with XCrusherX that the girl from the song is leaving her(old)self, not her boyfriend. |
