Who is sophie? Is it a guy named sophie? Why would she be referencing a woman when she's talking about all the other females he's hanging out with? It makes more sense to me as "So he..." Instead of "Sophie..." |

Well if you watch the video it's pretty evident that from the beginning he weaves his own web that he gets tangled up in and is unable to get away from. By the end though, when he finally breaks free... everything inside of him comes spilling out. I would take the video more literally than the title. It wouldn't surprise me if they had wrote the song first and were sitting there thinking "What should we call this?" and they just decided on the Whale Song. But to take it literally, whales sing to find their way around... which is what he's trying to do in his lyrics... is find his way out of the self imposed web. |

Obvious troll is obvious. Who cares if he thinks they're sell outs? A sell out is one who compromises their principles (among other things) in exchange for money. As far as I knew Modest Mouse never had any principles and if you want to get into their nihilistic lyrics then it's ludacris to even give a shit one way or the other as labeling them as anything is a blatant contradiction of the oh so obvious lyrics. I like Isaac Brock, more so than most people who will ever read this and I could give two fucks less if the band ever existed. |

First of all stop being over analytical douche nozzles. Clearly "state of the big sky" and "state of the black feet" refers to Montana since both are blatant characteristics of that state. "I walk around with my shoes off, the ground holds onto my bad walk" Go outside with your shoes off and run around. I bet you won't be walking straight, it hurts. Having a baby's clean consience means there's nothing troubling your mind and walking around with your head off clearly is supporting that. As for the rest of it, who knows and who cares. It's a good song but it is just a demo, I could make some blanket vague statements and give it to several people and have them tell me what it means and not one would tell me the same thing. As for MM/Ugly Casa unless he tells you explicitly what the song means good luck but let me tell you that more times than not it's Occam's Razor and you're just over analyzing the song. It's really simple why they don't tell you the meanings and every type of artist that panders to a diverse demographic does the same thing. It's bad for business. |
