| The Tallest Man on Earth – Weather of a Killing Kind Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
I think this has the same meaning as "Love Is All". The two songs are strictly connected, I think, like two parallel songs that explain the same situation from two different angles... I think here he's feeling something is wrong with how he feels, he feels there's a "weather of a killing kind" coming, that there are wolves and shadows and creatures "outside their door" (= the "evil" in "Love Is All"), and that he's about to kill (not that I really think he's killing anyone, it's all just a big metaphor of course)... he tries to ignore those signs, but he knows they "will be spread out there forevermore" so at one point he won't be able to ignore them anymore, and that point is described in "Love is all", which is where he's actually killing the relationship... |

| This song is strictly connected to Weather Of A Killing Kind - I think listening to that song can help to fully understand the meaning of this one... | |
| Damien Rice – Closer Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| He wrote this song for the strip club scene of Closer but, as Jellings said, it wasn't finished in time so it didn't make it to the movie. He performed it live just once and I don't think we'll ever going to hear it again. | |

Great interpretation, I agree with everything you said. Apart from the 'fall' part. I think his "fall" comes from Italian "fallo" (Late Latin "phallus"), which basically means penis. |

TheThornBirds, "For me music is not competitive. There is no winner or loser or somebody who is better than someone else really. For me art is so expressive that it is wrong to say any one thing is better than any one else." [Damien Rice] |

| Damien Rice – Then Go Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| I think it means she is giving him a hard time and he doesn't know why, and he wonders if it is something she's always been doing since she was born... | |
| Damien Rice – You Shouldn't Be Here Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
I think it's the same girl described in Accidental Babies or 9 Crimes. He has a girlfriend so he feels good but awkward to be with this girl. He wants to be with her but feels it may be too late now because he is with someone else, and she's probably with someone as well, but he wants her so he can wait until they're both free. I think this song is about thinking of cheating but not doing it (at least for now). But it is too hard for him to be near her so I think he will eventually end up cheating at some point (Accidental Babies or 9 Crimes). |

| Damien Rice – Cold Water Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
In that version (BBC4 session) he sings "Nam MyÅhÅ Renge KyÅ", which is a mantra called "daimoku". The purpose of chanting it is to attain perfect and complete awakening. That part is amazing and gives a whole new meaning to the whole song... I think the song is about being at your absolute final breaking point, and instead of letting yourself drowning in cold water you turn it around and heal somehow, and although he's not a religious person, religion is helping him in this process of self-awakening... As Damien himself said, "when ill and brushing death we sometimes get very focused and sometimes, all of a sudden, religious. No past, no future, just now. Desperate. Lost. I spent some time alone in an abbey in the south of France with a monk who composed Gregorian Chants, perhaps influencing this song." |

This song is so Nick Drake-ish in some way... So intense and obscure... and I think there may be a connection with Crinan Wood |

I actually think they're at the end of the relationship... He thinks about the early days when they sang and laughed and danced and all, they were happy together and even leaves were laughing. But the problems were just around the corner ("as we walked away I saw a shadow on the ground, there were stones inside my pockets that were found"), and now she's only a face smiling in his memory. The darkened room is where they are now, it's the end of their relationship. "The morning is so far off from out here in the night" - The happy moments are gone, they're struggling and fighting now, it's night and all is dark. And when the night gets colder (things get worse) she leaves him, and all the places where they used to go are empty. But he's still deeply in love with her, he desperately needs her, he always will and always have... Before he knew her he called her name out to the darkness down below. He feels like he has always lived in the darkness, but then she came and brought the light. Amazing song... Probably my favorite off the album. |

| Alexi Murdoch – Slow Revolution Lyrics | 16 years ago |

This is an amazing song, wow... I'm not really sure these lyrics are 100% correct, but as Duzel said, I think this song is about death. Or... about moving on after someone else's death. In the very first verse someone suddenly dies, and it's a big change for his family and friends (in this case, Sylvia). It's a revolution for them, but they slowly heal from this loss. When someone dies it's hard to go on living at first but as time passes it becomes easier and everything goes back to normal again, "all that was after is now as it was before". And I agree with the full circle theory... I mean, there's some hope in the last verse but there's also darkness, shadows... and "all of us ready ourselves to go into the dark". A circle... We march, stomp, dance, then we die, the world goes on without us, and then again people marching, stomping and dancing. |

the lyrics on this site are wrong... among the afflictions with which i've been marked i'm not so prententious and not quite so dark... i get the feeling you're bored with me and not through habit or frequency did your mother have you easily? and if there's someplace else you'd rather be then go... then go... among the intentions which have been sought numbered and labeled but none of them bought... i get the feeling you're testing me, you're saturated in urgency, you stick your probe in further but you're still not pleased... and if there's someplace else you'd rather be then go... then go... it seems so deca tree stares blindingly with melted time leaning over, it's only... oh... then go... then go... i would've lied for you, i would've cried for you... i crossed the line for you, i would've died for you... sometimes he doesn't play the "deca tree" part, or the "i would've lied for you" part... anyway... great song. |

| this song is amazing... he only played it once (in Cardiff) but I suddenly fell in love with it... I hope to hear it again and again in the future... on a new album, maybe. | |
| Damien Rice – Making Noise Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
--- And she's in the part of my bones where my secrets hide actually is --- And she's in the part of my BOAT where my secrets hide... there's a whole metaphor about the boat and the water... "the temptation swims", "do not cry into the water, just get in"... oh and it's "And KEEP watching what you don't know"... kid doesn't make much sense as for the meaning... I guess it's another song about the painter Damien writes so much about... |

| Damien Rice – What This Night Is For Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"this is a song i wrote about an evening i spent with some friends sitting around the fire, sitting with the day as it was slowly passing... it got late, it was all cloudy and then it cleared up and all these stars appeared and in that beautiful moment we realize that even though we've been in this particular place a number of times, there was something right there in that moment that would've never been quite like it was..." this song is beautiful... he did an amazing version of it in Milan last year, which led into sleep don't weep... great. |
