"its not a hill its a mountain as you start out the climb" - it may seem hard at first but it will get better. "the future needs a big kiss" - embrace the future. i just picked up pisces iscariot again, i havn't listened to it in ages and really didn't pay much attention to it other than for Starla and landslide. However i have to say, now i love this album as much as the others. and this song in particular is extra good i love the slow build - who else puts a rocking guitar solo inan almost acoustic song? I only started listenig to the pumpkins early last year, but my goodness they are soooo good. My favourite band for sure. every time i listen to any of their songs i pick up something different. a guitar screech or a drum kick or even a simple play on words. They are genius, all of them. | JCM-93, the first time i heard the album i was waiting to here the shock of the lightning as i'd seen the video on their website. however bag it up hit me hard and wasn't what i was expecting at all, the turning made me feel dizzy, then this song came on after that long drawn out siren and straight away got stuck in my head. plus i love Noel's voice on this track. this is probably my favourite song on there - i love all the beatles references and i just enjoy the whole album really. I don't mind it. But this album is attempting to be a pop version of Joni Mitchels 'blue' and it really falls short of the mark. That said, i seriously doubt she writes these lyrics, so i guess i can't blame her for that. but hearing people say shes the best ever female rocker is stupid because 1) shes a POP star (not a rock star) and 2) she doesn't play her own music or fully write her own songs and before you all yell at me, i agree that this song is kinda catchy and that media pressure on people is ridiculous - but you gotta remember its their choice to be in Los Angeles and go to the night haunts were they know theres gonna be lots of press also, it seems a bit funny that the whole breakup thing was getting so much attention right before her single got released... in this industry any publicity is good publicity - label marketing 101 |

i agree totally with what ChrislvSP said in regards to Siamese Dream. Heck, i think anyone whos ever heard of that album loves it. its fantastic. but it was released well over 10 years ago. alot has changed. Billy is no longer an angsty 20something year old, he is a 40yr old man. No artist sticks to the exact same genre. They would get bored shitless. its like a job, your still working but you may change occupation 3 or 4 times. U2 released Achtung baby just 4 years after The Joshua Tree - those records sound nothing the same. If you like one album and cannot escape it then thats your choice. I happen to realy appreciate and adore nearly all of the Smashing Pumpkins songs off every bootleg bside and album. Billy is an awesome guitar player, composer and lyricicist. I think this song could be for the fans who have always stuck by the pumpkins. the people theyare getting away from are the SP haters who once were there but have now gone leaving only punched up skulls and dark back rows (the past) he is saying lets go beyond the great unknown to places of spiritual and musical greatness, forget about all the 'haters' lets keep making and loving great music and keep loving life - don't let the bastards get you down. |

i read the comments on here before i listened to this song. i had also heard in other places that it had a 'pretty good' solo in it. i was like 'hmm maybe i better go get that weird looking pisces iscariot from the throwout bin at rockaway' after one listen it pretty much has become my favourite pumpkins song. absolutely fan-bloody-tastic. i reckon billy heard the siren go past and for a few little tabs he tries to replicate it in the solo. fantastic. absolutely adore the pumpkins. after downloading pretty much all of there songs now (buying all the cds i could of theirs first from my local record shop) i really find it hard to listen to other bands, especially a lot of newer bands who are trying to out do each other with their indy cred, as if in some popularity contest (which really defies the whole point - isn't it ironic haha). this is how music should be; full of real emotion, fantasy and rockin guitar and drums. | i love the vocal on this track, the echo and keychanges are very unexpected. This really does sound like a modern day beatles track. its even got some of the awesome weird effects throughout and especially at the end. Its kinda lucy in the sky meets fool on the hill with a touch of hey jude. very trippy. apparantly this song was written ten or so years ago and they found it on a demo tape but none of them could remember doing it. All that aside, it is an interesting way to finish the album. The lyrics are pretty straitforward. Don't give up on me, i'll keep on trying. if the album is some kind of concept about the apocolypse this would be where he finds out whether or not he gets to go to heaven or hell, the final scene.but we never know, and it doesn't matter - soldier on anyway. | |

Kind of always feels one beat too slow, which makes it that much better that it works. the eastern instruments throughout (and backward guitar?) make it very ominous. Its obviously one minute past midnight and the world has gone into complete darkness and everyones either shut in or going crazy. But you've got to hold on be brave and wait to be where theres light, to be where theres life. Its kind of like a little horror movie where the aliens attack at night and you've gotta stay through till the morning when they will go away/ imo. | |
