i agree that this is about a guy who fucked up something/someone important to him. rate yourself and rape yourself is like saying that he should see himself for what he is, and suffer because of it, because of how he treated her. your grace is wasted in your face, he's beautiful, but its wasted, because the inside is ugly. biting your own neck, pure vampire, draining the life, he used to do it to others, but now he needs to see the error of his ways or he'll only have himslef to feed on/depend on. he'll be alone that was my train of thought, but i dnt know if its one guy advising another, one man speaking to all men, or a guy talking to himself either way, this is beauty |

| Well, I watched an interview with him and he said it was when they were on tour, and they'd just got to the hotel in Texas or Nevada or somewhere, and there was one road, and on one side was the big shiny hotel, and on the other was just pitch black desert, everybody else went to the hotel but he didnt, he went to the desert and wondered around all night and he doesnt know how far out he went or how long he was out there, but he couldnt see anything, and it was cold, and thats where it came from, but Im sure theres a metaphor in there somewhere. Also, he was drunk when he sung this song, and had only written one verse, and made the rest up on the spot. The next morning they were deciding what songs they wanted to put on the album, someone said Cold Desert and he was like "We havent done that yet" and the rest of them were like, "Yeah, we finished it last night" he said even though it doesnt sound that good, he doesnt want to rewrite/record it because it came from the heart. he's either met his girlfriend, and their relationship is mostly physical (perhaps an affair?) or shes a whore he's picked up (considering the album focusses more on glitzy vegas i thinki this would also make sense). Their both pretty young and they have dark things to hide from ("deomns at the door), maybe their on drugs ("the highs are low") or maybe theyve realised its over or whatever, and they just want one last time. it's nothign to them, just somehting free to do, to forget and 'take away the pain' despite the fast beat etc, it is kinda sad, regretful, because they both knwo they're just using eachother etc. |

I think this song isn't as simple as just love. I think its about a girl who is seperate from the others, due to some events in her past, or such as depression and self harm, or through something else, i don't know. But he is completely blown away by her, shes like nothign hes ever seen before and he love sher for it. He's one of the crowd, but everything shes been through he's felt her pain, and he doesn't understand how he can love her while shes still all hurt and distant, cos they're so different, but he still does. just a guess |

I adore this song! it really speaks to me of the relationship between jacob and bella in the twilight series, if any of you ahve read it. the guy absolutely adores the girl, maybe they used to be friedns, hence taht he'll satnd by her, but she's changing, and breaking away from him. i think that parts of the chorus are how he thinks she feels about him, that she'll just takes what she needs simply because she wants it, and he won't say a thing because his love is so dependent and blind. he wants to be there for her but shes pushing him away, and he knows shes bad for him, but he still wants to say. this is all drawn from hte fact taht the first verses speak so much of friendship but theres still taht vibe of a manipulative relationship, where i think the girl is to blame. I guess it could be the guy. the first verses about friendship are really the sort of thing i'd liek to be able to say to my friends when we're in times of trouble, and any of us need a shoulder to cry on. just a way to show someone that you're there for them but yeh just athoguht |

Well the killers said that sams town was about like, the real side of vegas, and that day and age was more the glitzy side. I think this is saying how someone so proud and wild (like a tiger) cna be completely crushed beneath the stereotypes and glitz there. i think this song is absolutely beautiful. It really reminds me of the book Eclipse. In that, the main character has two people in love with her, her best friend, and the man she believes is her soul mate. At the end of it all, she chooses the latter, leaving her best friend, jacob, absolutely broken. It's all about how when a relationship ends and you still love the perosn, but they just seem to have got over you so quickly. it really captures the sense of desperation when youre in this kind of position e.g. i just prayed to a god i dnt believe in" but yeh, thats what i think |

hmm well this is complicated. Well at first i think the guy is kinda looking at his present situation, and looking back over how he got there, like he sees the girl so lifelss when she kisses him etc. but he remembers hwo he never understood her, and how he feared she could be too twisted to understnad. yet despite all this he still wnats her, cos there are parts of her he likes, the old her, and he just wants that, not all her lies and anger. he wnats to carry on the relatinship with the od her, but knows that if he tries to carry in she'll fade away so far that she'll just be a shaow of what she was, and that the only way to give her back herslef is to let her go i think that this is one of the most beautiful songs in the world |
