A Perfect Circle – Judith Lyrics 15 years ago
Cannot help but PMSL at skaryguy's assertations about the purpose of Baptism, as he clearly knows nothing about it, or more importantly perhaps, the history behind it.

Now don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to force beliefs upon people or anything like that, I've little time for people who try such shennanigans, however it is unfair to jump to assumptions about what Christians actually believe about baptism.

Baptism is not a prerequisite to participate within a church, and any church that tells you that it is has forgotten their core values of the all encompassing love of their God, in my opinion at least. It is a ritual central to the belief of salvation and being cleansed of sin in order to reach heaven upon death. Indeed in the past, baptism was something that people did on their death beds. There are some Saints within the Catholic doctrine who actually never got baptised, never got round to it.

The act of baptising a new born child is in fact a modern and cultural phenomenon more about welcoming a child into the world and having a family shin dig than a religious tool to force the concept of God upon the child. Once you are baptised there is nothing that binds you to a church. In fact, you don't actually have to be an ordained priest or minister to baptize someone and have it considered 'real' to the eyes of God, so long as you use the correct words. Why if you were here right now I could baptise you myself and it would be the biggest joke the world has seen since the internet was concieved.

Nay lad, sorry to dissapoint you, but the act of baptism is merely a 'spiritual cleansing' if you will, and a cultural mechanism. Even as an adult of your own age you don't even need to consent to it for it to be considered binding as such. It is not a membership card nor a ball or chain. The membership card comes with the act of confirmation, which you do have to consent to, though I believe some more modern protestant movements don't necissarily believe in this.

Theatre of Tragedy – Bring Forth Ye Shadow Lyrics 15 years ago
As always, a translation of sorts, more an interpretation I suppose, into more modern English, based on some research into archaic words and turns of phrase. I'm not an expert, I just take an interest :)

Time is endless
Profound as a thousand nights
I slow, I rest for a while
For what use is this quick pace?
One less step to take
To the heirloom fatal kiss. (Could not think of a better way to put it...the kiss is passed on from victim to victim)

I rebel no more against Time or Fate,
For my own kind shall never come to me,
Yet! Who writes my future?
Dim the lights, I cannot see!
Come closer, shadow!
Who are you toying with?

Time has stoped
But for others it never ceases
For me the Pages of Life do not turn,
Watch as they burn on the funeral pyre.
They fear the easy velvet darkness -
Listen to me! Why do you hide,
When in my arms I say "O! Come here"?
Nothing but sorrow can be found else where.

Why do you consider your blood to be so dear
When it could flood through my veins?
Endure this to amuse me
And therefore grant me the deadly gift,
The gift of being able to give the dark trick.
It's such a shamelessly erotic act
It is nothing to you, but everything to me,
Oh! such an innocence taken so soon

Why do you consider you blood to be so dear
When through my veins it will flood?

Theatre of Tragedy – Virago Lyrics 15 years ago
I was just listening to this and decided to give it a whallop (if you'll excuse the pun :D)

Words in brackets I was unable to translate but I think you'll be able to get the picture of the meaning behind these beautiful lyrics

Virago - meaning an ill tempered womam

Humiliate me, I am your bitch
One should be humbled before you

Arouse me to happiness
Neither happy vision nor muse
Could thrash me to this ruddy colour
Work well my dreary one
('hesting) scolding (Possibly simply "give me a good scolding"?)
Success! An enormous ill tempered woman

Whip me, force pain upon me
Pray soft; tender ache

Arouse me to happiness
Neither happy vision nor muse
Could thrash me to this ruddy colour
Work well my dreary one
('hesting) scolding (Possibly simply "give me a good scolding"?)
Success! An enormous ill tempered woman

As you can see, this is simply a song about a submissive begging his mistress to, well, dominate him :)

Theatre of Tragedy – Lorelei Lyrics 17 years ago
Secubia, it is just their style of writing. Enjoying music isn't always about the lyrics and the meaning, and personally I think it's poetic. At any rate, just for you, here is a stab at a translation. Have I not got anything better to do? No lol

Dear fairy, was it true love or a deception
A love song sung to lure – damn! not to court me?
A mad woman, yet the sweetest maid -
Truly, you gently woke me to perfect life
Lorelei,
A poet of tragedies, I write prayers to death
Yet who the hell was I to dare?
Lorelei,
Can't you see I need you?
Can't you see that the loss of love is painful?
You skilfully ridiculed me in public
For all years a damned and endured ceremony
Caused all surprised eyes to see the struggle
In the middle of it all I praised you like a young country lad
The one and only bundle of sticks that feeds the fire
Commanded by my heart's cowering choir
Lorelei,
A poet of tragedies, I write prayers to death
Yet who the hell was I to dare?
Lorelei,
Can't you see I need you?
Can't you see that the loss of love is painful?
By chance I write you this iconed fable at all,
Does the weight burden you? Then think through your change of plans;
You are between heaven and hell, unrivaled phoenix -
Pray thee, sweetheart! - woo me rather than (my irritable and prolonged writings?)

Theatre of Tragedy – Angélique Lyrics 17 years ago
I've translated the song as best I can. Of course you must take into account the context of the song to pinpoint exactly what some of the words truly mean (where they may mean something else), and I suppose only the song writer knows that. Therefore I have presumed what the context is from what I could find of the words meaning, and that presumption is that the song is about someone mourning the loss of his love to another man. As I said this may not be accurate, but here is what I could gather;

You didn't dawdle bringing me from heaven to hell
Still, I cling hard to this heather
Dew-scented blossom; you were perfect,
I'll never forget the vision of you, my maiden
Damn this creature of bad memories
I may be foolhardy and crazy, but I will vanquish him

Boasting - Perish, Devil
I would have you diminish forever
Discouraged since that time
Taken as a blow, Angélique?

By force and with a grin on my face I shall injur (him) in the fight
Alas coward! - die by the noose (possibly a reference to suicide)

Boasting - Perish, Devil
I would have you diminish forever
Discouraged since that time
Taken as a blow, Angélique?

Do not accustom yourself to this crude Devil
Or you shall become a Devil yourself...my Angel

Boasting - Perish, Devil
I would have you diminish forever
Discouraged since that time
Taken as a blow, Angélique?
