Sublime – 89 Vision Lyrics 16 years ago
theres 2 theories on the 89 vision, both are correct within their proper area.

here, obviously its about lickin butts and shit which is kinda gross. if you look at the numbers 89 and compare it to 69 and the body parts, it makes sense.

but, in "jailhouse" when they talk about the 89 vision, its about their vision and where they wanna be years down the road.

When I was a youth in 1983
It was the best day of my life, had the 89 vision
We didnt fuss or no fight
When all the little daughters wanna be my wife
It was playin on my guitar, on my guitar

Also, the 89 vision is something that KRS-One had, which they were heavily influenced by and sampled alot. He was the Teacha (KRS - Knowledge Reigns Supreme) and he wanted to stop the violence in the hip-hop community. A fan was killed in a fight at a hip-hop show (he wasnt performing) and soon after his friend was gunned down, and from then on had formed the Stop the Violence Movement in 1989, aka his '89 vision.

Sublime – Ain't No Prophet Lyrics 16 years ago
This song IS DEFINITLY written by Slightly Stoopid and covered by Sublime. Yes, it was on SS Acoustic Roots CD in 2004, but it first appeared as a hidden track on "To a Party" on the cd "Slightly $toopid" which was released by Skunk records in 1996, but obviously everything was recorded earlier in 1995 before Brads passing. It also says in the CD jacket that the "not so secret track" was produced by Brad.

Slightly Stoopid – Open Road Lyrics 16 years ago
while i agree that MDiesel is right about the first verse, I think the chorus takes on much more of a relationship approach. And the second verse talks about how they two are apart for some time and how he misses his girl. When he isnt sure if she'll be on the "otherside", i think hes wondering where the two of them will be once they are done with the time period that they are apart from each other...aka the otherside of their separation. Will they get back together, will they have moved on?? Never really know

Jack Johnson – Fortunate Fool Lyrics 17 years ago
i agree mild...all the shooting and killing going on in the world but getting her purse stolen is what wakes her up. No offense also but she probably has alot more waking up to do.

And i feel that the song is based most strongly on the niave principal. Because she lives in her own little carefree world, she is "fortunate", but because she is oblivious to the rest of the world's pain, she is a "fool"

Jacks version is really good, but sublimes is the greatest. If you know all the meaning and the torment behind Boss DJ, then you too would agree.

mxlftcoastpunxpx...you are the dumbest mother fuckin 311 poser ever!!! i didnt have an account but i signed up just to blast your dumbass for everything you just said. yea, some of 311's songs are about weed, but this clearly isnt!!! and to start by saying you are the epitome of a 311 fan, thats just wrong. you dumb mother fucker. PrettyTrainCrash has it 100% right.

and as you rewrote the entire song, you fuckin disproved one of your retarded thoughts.

"theres someone better out there for you and me"
and somehow you claim that the "someone" he is referring to is weed. HOW DOES THAT MAKE SENSE?!?!? weed is not a someone, jackass

but if you were a REAL 311 fan you would know that "stress is the enemy and not a friend of me, one thing i learned is to be easy going, flowing..." so ill just relax now to sweet sweet reggae vibes
