The lyric book actually says "bakers." I thought it was bankers at first too. Now I almost look at it as both: Maybe a baker could be looked at as someone who 'cooks the books.' Great song. One of my faves off of Ex-Lives. |

I think Phil wrote this song to tell what it means to him to be part of the underground scene: "Could you ever admit to yourselves That you must walk in the light of the blessed? not invited to cry out loud I'm a brother stone cold truth love and suffer (the) siamese-cult" He also seems to possibly be writing about his sobriety and abstinence from hard drugs, and his continuing journey to stay that way: "eyes wide to reality crawling... the the path of the righteous crawling... to you again" |
