The Number Twelve Looks Like You – Civeta Dei Lyrics 16 years ago
Anyone who knows a lot about anything can see that #12 is lightyears ahead in songwriting. But it's clear based on your alternative suggestions that you can't think deeply enough to even begin to fathom that concept...

Wonderful analysis!

I would say that based on the dynamics of the music, this is the most accurate meaning. The way the music builds into choppy brutality and then dies down into softer melodies with incoherent layers of screams perfectly reflects the mindset of a self-mutilator.

Crystal Castles – Tell Me What to Swallow Lyrics 16 years ago
The whole album carries undertones of violent internal struggle, particularly one of a younger girl. Alice's vocals on the more aggressive tracks like xxzxczx me seem to represent moments where the struggle bleeds over into physical manifestation. Even on tracks like these, the use of harsh, bright synth sounds and upbeat rhythms create a disturbing child-like aura. It would seem that Tell Me What To Swallow is almost a step back from the other tracks; a look at the root of the struggle that is underlying throughout the album.

Of course this is all speculation.

Regardless, this song is incredible.
Gorgeous layering and mixing.

The Sound of Animals Fighting – The Heretic Lyrics 17 years ago
Forgive me if my analysis is over the top. I am assuming that the writer is just as deep and progressive as the rest of TSOAF.

The lyrics seem to be an intricate yet rather vague testament to the difficulties of being an outsider/minority and the tribulations set on that person by the group he(pumpkin/bumpkin boy) is outcast(whether by force or by choice) from. "Pumpkin boy" reveals imagery of gothic culture, which has been labeled as evil and different for centuries. "Bumpkin boy" creates images of a character who is foreign or simply uneducated, as well as awkward or perhaps just misunderstood. It's my personal opinion that this phrase, like many other lines sung by the various vocalists of TSOAF, is purposely sung with a slur so as to provide multiple meanings and create further depth. Try and look at the rest of the lyrics in this mindset and see if you agree.

Something else I found interesting was the re-use of the lines "Flesh is heretic. My body is a witch; I am burning it.", found previously on The Tiger And The Duke in the song All Is Ash Or The Light Shinning Through It. "If burning the flesh means finding the one" ties with this line, which can be viewed as a universal statement of "If going against the grain (religion, race, social norms, or even one's own physical being) means acheiving your goal (becoming seperate/unique or earning acceptance/appreciation, it could go either way)
