"Daylight Hide the skin Cut it of Scatter ash in the wind" (it's daylight and he's changing back) Shapeshifters rolling on winds of tyrants make Fierce lore of fanged horn Danger all the way Night's sea reflection The faces of bodies slain Returning to the form of natrual human's fate (a ruler has sent soldiers to look for him, he runs off, in danger of being caught the entire way. when night comes he is looking out over the sea and see's all the people he kills as a werewolf.) Grown from the cold Spirits Unclean Dealer of the days The ice will thaw (he's grown cold, or ashamed that he killed someone and dirtied his spirit, perhaps "dealer of the days" and "The Ice will thaw" some how refering to him wanting to die, but deciding against suicide because he hopes he will make it out of his problems.) As the solider walks thru the crimson side Researchers of aftermatch Dispelling disarming man One-toed horses subject of genesis And the immigrants (mean while the soldiers have found his killing, probubly a really bloody mess or a large massacure, and this causes people to arm themselves in a hunt for him. not really sure about the other 2 lines though) Fundamental side of a human mind Hulder folk and fairies So belive (noteing that it's natural for people to no belive in werewolfs, but now that they have been attacked by one they think it's real. not sure to the exact definition of "hulder" though.) The hero of the gods The crossing of the threshold The Belly of the wale Refusal of Return (recap from the begining) hope that helps every one. this is actually one the only mabey 3-4 songs i really love on this album. they're all great, but this one catches my ear the most. |

well no matter the real idea of the song, half of the fandom that a song my get is it's personal interpritation of the listiner. i've listned to this one over and over, and when you just listen to the words, and not the story behind them, you can grab many aphorisms from many of pink floyd's songs. --We're just two lost souls swimming in a fish bowl, year after year, running over the same old ground. What have we found? The same old fears, wish you were here.-- this part really grabs my ear in the end, and with all the listings of good vs. bad things in the beginging it pulls the thought to my mind that even if you love something to the bone, it can still get old, dull, and not as exciting as it use to be, but the things you fear will never be any less scary, unless you've completly gotten un-afraid of them. i've always loved pink floyd, and if you look at there lyrics the right way, they are the equivalent to shakespere in interpretation value. |

well who ever the song is about, it come off to me that it's about a really stuborn person. the basic over lay, is that he refuses to go with any one elses advice, ideas,... ect. as in here: ""The thing I treasure most in life, cannot be taken away There will never be a reason why I will surrender to your advice"" that tells me that he is determined to make opinion and decide on his own, and refuses to follow what any one else tells him. ""To change myself I'd rather die No they will not understand I will make the greatest sacrifice"" he saying that he'd rather die than to assimilate with every one else, and that everyone else(they) wont understand him bocause of it. ""You can't predict where the outcome lies You'll never take me alive"" he's saying just because you may be right doesnt mean there isnt another opinion or another awnser. in effect this could be an indirect bash on mainstream meadia and the what not.... ""I'm no slave, are you feeling brave Or have you gone out of your mind"" he's saying that he's not going to listen to the (lets call them pre-established decisions), and that because if one does it makes you a conformist. ""No more games, it won't feel the same If I hold my anger inside There's no meaning, my soul is bleeding I've had enough of your kind One suggestion, use your discretion Before you label me blind"" he's saying that even though he wants to fight these pre-established decisions, he's not going to be an ass about it, and blindly ignore them. actually looking up the word(conformism) now, i think a lot of this is that he wants to just make his own decisions and not listen to people that make first glance opinions, or just listen to the mainstream media's for example: you know the TV new channel doesnt always tell the whole story. like all those news stations like GMA, or the Today show. and i have noticed this my self, frequently there shows will come up with there own agenda of idea's and then do there best to show you that they are right. while this does help in establishing a general feel for some specific events, it does however lead to half truths. |

hmm, ok i didnt read through 153 posts but i havnt seen a really great interpritation of this song. the last two by tout and savemekaizer are close. (to my interpritation at least) the way i see it, this song is about the way, that all good things have bad side effects, as well as all bad things having some good side effects. here are my examples of that "I watched the glee while your kings and queens fought for ten decades for the Gods they made" "Just as every cop is a criminal And all the sinners saints As heads is tails" but yeah, "Seems like he's trying to make the point that the devil isn't to blame for all thats wrong in the world, its humans themselves" that sums up a lot of it |
