The Knife – She's Having a Baby Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this is actually more like... someone's heard that a relative of theirs is having a baby, but it's old news and the singer was never told about it, so they feel like they're being left out of not only that person's life, but the new child's as well.

I partially agree with Kennelsworth. It seems to be about someone who is maybe overweight, or maybe just lazy, who works all day and then comes home to fall asleep in front of the TV. This person wants more than anything to get away from the endless repetition, but decides night after night that it's okay for just a little while longer. They can just tune out and forget the feeling of emptiness as long as they focus on the screen.

I think, though, that when they're addressing someone else (We want you to sing us a song), they're talking to the TV. I don't think they have any relationships outside of work.

I actually think this song is about their decision to allow Sony (a fancy man) to use their song Heartbeats in a commercial for a television. They're strongly opposed to things like that, but they chose to take the money because they wanted to start a label of their own ("Eyes are sober, this is the plan"), but I imagine that they still feel like they betrayed themselves (Singing for money that burns my hand).
