This is the first time I've actually had a look at these lyrics. Josh Pyke is such a good lyricist. Gotta love him. |

I really like this song - it sounds so depressing to me though. And the story? Well - it's a bit imaginative, but this is what I'd like to think the song is about. I think it's about a homeless man who has fallen in love. Yeah - regardless of what the song is actually about, I still love it. |

I agree with both park11 and circa_survive_green. I just got this album and I'm in love with this song. I especially love the starting verse of this song. I loooove him. He's a lyric genius. "If I could bottle up the sea breeze I would take it over to your house And pour it loose through your garden So the hinges on your windows would rust and colour Like the boats pulled up on the sand for the summer And your sweet clean clothes would go stiff on the line And there’d be sand in your pockets and nothing on your mind" |

I think this song is about a person who has given up the will to live. I think the war story is feasible and fits with the lyrics, but it's quite crude to translate a song so literally, because music can mean different things to different people. It is a beautiful song none the less. |

I love all Josh Pyke songs, but this song has a little place higher in my heart. I think this song is about a broken relationship, which he regrets he took part in destroying - "Oh no, what have I done, all of these stitches have split one by one." He still longs for what used to be, and he hopes there's still something there - "I flash the ray 'cross the sea, hoping this beam still connects you to me". Such a nice song. |
