| The Magic Numbers – All I Believe In Lyrics | 14 years ago |

I admit, I heard this song during Twilight as well (though I only watched it for the first time a few days ago). When I finally read through the actual lyrics, though, my mind did not immediately go to this very positive interpretation. But I do kind of like this different take. :) |

I don't see this song as being about asking another person to make them whole. I felt it was more like a song to themselves acknowledging that there's a lot of ways that the speaker is imperfect - every verse depicts a situation where the speaker may not be successful or depicts a shortcoming. From there, I feel the speaker is acknowledging that these imperfections may have led someone to leave them or they have simply become so extremely disappointed by the world they have nearly nothing left "to believe in". Still, the chorus is more optimistic as I interpreted it to be more of a hopeful note or request to the speaker's inner self or inner strength - "Oh my heart, I want you to be strong, I need you to be all I believe in". This I took as the speaker admitting "yes, everything is disappointing right now" but there is one thing left that hasn't fallen apart and that's him/herself. |

"Shooting the moon" or rather to "shoot the moon" is also a Hearts card game reference. You "shoot the moon" when you collect all the point scoring cards in a hand (the goal of the game, if you're unfamiliar, is to accrue the lowest amount of points) resulting in all other players getting penalized with the points you would have otherwise accrued. It's one of the more difficult strategies to pull off since there are 14 point scoring cards and only 13 rounds of play per hand. If you're missing even 1 of the point scoring cards, you're pretty much up the creek. Just food for thought. :D |

| Anna Nalick – Shine Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Personally, I feel as if this song is about someone who pretends to be a martyr but doesn't truly believe that that's who they are. Or someone who doesn't know or REFUSES to acknowledge that they are not worthless. The narrator is someone who is close to them/cares very much about them.... but can recognize these unhealthy behaviors and wants this person to calm down and come back to some semblance of rationality because by growing up and being productive that's how they can "shine". Mostly I get this from the lines "You’re the one to whom nobody verses I love you/Unless you say it first" & "And I think you need to stop following misery’s lead/Shine away shine away shine away/Isn’t it time you got over how fragile you are". Anyway, I'm admittedly probably biased because I'm in the process of ending a relationship with a guy who is so damaged but constantly pretends that he's not. He has so much potential.... but refuses to truly shine because he's such a "black sheep" and that's not what people like him does.... Still, no matter how off point my interpretation is.... it's another beautiful Anna Nalick song. :) |
