At Reading this year, Dave said he wrote this song while he was teaching his daughter to walk in their driveway. He also brought said daughter onto stage and dedicated a song to her. Aww. |

Personally my first thought was that it was about a car crash caused by the partner, she took a different route home and it was her fault etc.
I played the song for my mom, and without seeing the video, she thought it was about alien abduction. "headlights on the hillside, don't take me this way" being the lights of the alien craft. |

reminds me of The Scientist by Coldplay. scientists only believe in what they can prove etc, so this song is saying that the person can use their science to break everything down to chemicals, but they just can't explain love |

just wanted to know... is the andy messersmith who went to juab high school with brandon (i have an idea he is now a teach there) a different person from the andy messersmith who is a baseball player?
i definitely think the song is about having a crush on a guy, but brandon is also definitely not gay |

I know it sounds like that, but Brandon himself said that he didn't even think about it that way when he wrote the song, although he did acknowledge that the title could be seen as a bit controversial. |

i dont think this song is about suicide at all. i think its about how even when times are bad you can just enjoy a moment or a day: "i got troubles Lord, but not today". its forgetting your troubles for a moment and just enjoying yourself.
i also think this was the intention when the song was used in Lost, even though they were in a really bad situation, in that moment everything was ok |

I used to absolutely hate this song, that "bitch keeps trying to make him pray" line always got to me. but i've warmed up to it a lot recently, and now i quite like it.
from the "should i just get along with myself line" i get the impression of a social outcast who likes a girl, but she's more, well, normal than he is. so instead of wasting his time on her, he thinks he should just get along with himself |

| The Killers – Sam's Town Lyrics
|
I think this song is about living in a small town, and wanting to break out of it, but always wanting to stay there. E.g: the line “I know that I can make it as long as somebody takes me home every now and then”. I think this is about wanting to literally go home occasionally to the place where you grew up.
I watched the dvd of their concert at the royal albert hall and Brandon said sam’s town means a place where you can be happy and comfortable, like a home or a spiritual home.
I went to see them in concert last weekend, and I was kinda disappointed that they didn’t sing this, because I love this song!

ok guys, this is my take on the romeo and juliet refernce: romeo has become synnonymous with the perfect man. no matter what the ending of the play was, romeo and juliet was known as a great romance, and they were always referred to as "star-crossed" lovers. so the speaker in this song is comparing her crush/boyfriend to romeo as he seems so perfect, but their love is forbidden. |

I dont think this song is a boy-loves-girl kind of song. i think it's about leaving someone you love and feel protective over (like a child), and watching them go away, and even though it breaks your heart, you know it's the right thing to do. its about getting out of a bad situation "we'll make it anywhere, away from here" |

I know this isn't the real meaning of the song, but the line "am i a part of the cure or am i part of the disease" makes me think of damage to the environment and how we can stop it but we're also a part of it. |

Aaah! first time I heard this song, i thought it was about divorce or abuse by a husband, then i realised it might be about abduction/murder. maybe the person is killing the children/people, and that is what's meant by "all these lives that you've been taking". perhaps the lives really are being taken away. |

Throughout the song, the speaker is using suicide as a metaphor for the girl leaving him, and he is referring to the fact that maybe he can "talk her down", in other words persuade her not to jump, or to leave him. |

Violet Hill is a hill in the Hong Kong area, during the second world war it was part of the hostilities in the Battle of Hong Kong, and the Japanese used it to field guns.
There is a song on the album called Lovers in Japan. I think it's all connected :) |

The first time I heard this song, I thought it ws kjust another superficial song with no meaning whatsoever, and completely random lyrics. Then I heard it again and realised the real meaning in it. I think that it is about starting out with innocent power (riding the bike with no handlebars), and then the power going t your head as it increases to the point where the speaker is so powerful that he could do anything, even cause people harm |

for me this song represents a huge change in my life, leaving home f=and living by myself for the first time, "noboday said it would be easy, no one ever said it would be so hard". And I wish I could go back to the start, when I my life was still the same. |

| Adele – Hometown Glory Lyrics

I just heard this song for the first time, and I can completely relate to it. It's about the fact that there really is no place like home, and about all the things which she loves and which are familiar to her at home. I interpret the line "Is there anything I can do for you" as her being homesick and upset, and others trying to make it better, but that's just my opinion! |

| Mika – Stuck In The Middle Lyrics

This song is obviously about something in the narrator's life which his family disapproves of, this could be gay-ness, lifestyle, etc. He feels like his family no longer accept him fro who he relly is, and he is stuck between being true to himself and being "true" to his family by being the person they expect him to be. |

I agree with Chapmion57575, it;s all metaphorical. When you have something amazing in your life and then you lose it or something, you feel like you were on top of the world and now you've lost everything. |

It could be "I know Saint Peter WILL call my name" because he says that he that the dishoest words were when he ruled the world, but obviously he doesn't rule it anymore. Also, if he was going to Hell for his dishonesty, surely he'd know why, and wouldn't say "for some reason I can't explain". Just a thought |

I completely understand the fact that there is a lot of reference to the Bible and historical figures in this song, but I also think that it may have a more general, symbolic meaning about suffering the loss of something that means a lot to you, which is represented here by the loss of power. also the speaker seems to be appealing to someone/something to help him and to become part of his world "be my mirror, my sword and shield..." |
