| Pedro the Lion – Simple Economics Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Not necessarily Christian, but yes a moral tale. From what I gather, this is the start of the concept album/story where the politician calls in a dirty trick involving a trade of money in order to slander on his opponent right before an election. There is a comparison to gaining political power to that of getting on the good side of a girlfriend, in which we see Bazan use irony as a mode of criticism. "Diamonds Are A Girl's Best Friend" is a Marilyn Monroe song in which she claims that diamonds are better friends than the people that love her, which Bazan here is showing us the moral implications of a love affair with materialism, from the bedroom to the boardroom. Just my two cents. |

You're different kid? Here's some meds. What's that, you don't need them? You're just "different"? Sit down, shallow, and shut up. Productivity is more important than creativity. |

| Andrew Bird – Banking on a Myth Lyrics | 16 years ago |

I think this is Andrew's sideswipe at God and Religion The guy he'd like to thank --> God Who says you don't have to walk the plank --> Death Myths to the bank --> Religions are myths that people bank on Child labor --> Religions use children in their services Liquid diet their force feeding --> Forcing children into religions before they have the mental capabilities to decide for themselves Word's have lost their bite --> The Bible's morals are now outdated etc... All the words seem to fit perfectly under this interpretation for me, but use your own sense. |

| Luna – Lost in Space Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I don't think it's from the perspective of a criminal sitting in a jail cell at all. That doesn't seem to fit with Luna's very personal lyrics. Rarely do they venture farther than Dean Wareham's own perspective. I think it's Dean's way painting himself as feeling guilty, but he doesn't know the reason he feels the way he does. He conjectures in the song about having a hard time dealing with his idols selling out, and maybe thinks of himself as a "sellout." Just my two cents. |

| Son Volt – Ten Second News Lyrics | 17 years ago |

This song has a lot of Missouri references. "The "beach there known for cancer" on Highway 70 is the infamous Times Beach, which was deserted due to dioxin poisoning." "The "cough in the water" is the Great Flood of 1993." "Farrar uses the metaphor of natural disasters to paint a picture of Midwestern life." I must thank John Erlinger, who's tab of this song I stole these quotes from. |

| Modest Mouse – 3 Inch Horses, Two Faced Monsters Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I believe this song is about arrogant and hypocritical people, especially regarding religion. The song is similar to an argument between a believer and an atheist/agnostic (Isaac Brock). Lines like... You said, "I hope you live forever" Don't you wish that on me You said, "Don't be clever" and I don't know but I been told You never die and you never grow old ... as well as all the angel and kneeling imagery are exactly like a discussion of the whether or not there is an afterlife or not. Brock, as usual, is being his sarcastic self on the subject of religion. I agree with Brock's (supposed) argument. It would suck to live forever and would get pretty damn boring and you would probably just want it to end. "Don't you wish that on me" |
