these lyrics are the story of my life right now. there is this guy, and he loves me, i just don't reciprocate the same feelings, i like him, but i don't know if it is enough. the part that really gets me is "See I thought love was black and white if it was wrong, or it was right But you aint leaving without a fight and I think I am just as torn inside" he was the first one to teach me about relationships, i know if i say anything he will do as much as he can to keep me, and it will hurt me as much as it hurts him. i want to be with him and see how it plays out, but i know he can find someone that will love him better, "i don't know if i could stand, another hand upon him" i don't know what to do.... ~torn inside |

I agree with most of what alicetrus said. I think "falling awake" is falling back into reality. Like falling asleep would be into dreams. It is a harsh view of reality, and gives the song a very sad tone. I still love it. It is beautifully written. |

ahhh. i love this song. i choreographed a beautiful lyrical dance to this and it was the first piece that i really loved and I continue to work on. I will never get sick of listening to this song. I think it is about someone in a rut, and the singer feels so helpless they will do all they can to help this person out. truely a beautiful song |

I do believe this song is about an affair. "if not leave him for me" obviously she is with two men, He is asking if she feels more for him than the other man. "in a place where no one knows what we have done" what they have done... is something that is secret. "and the mild issue of our disgrace" shame for cheating and what they are doing together. "if not leave him for me, before one of us has accidental babies" is him saying she has to make a choice because the relationship between them is wrong if she is with someone else. And the relationship with the new guy is wrong because she doesn't love him. my favorite part is the last words... "for we are..." he is not sure what he is to her and what she feels for him. |
