For me, it's about a *transformation*; one in which everything changes, yet the only actual change is on the inside. Y'all know what I mean. But please don't claim you know any more than this, unless you can reason it out. |

There's just too many great artists to hear them all! Regardless, I'm a little heart-broken that nobody has commented on this amazing woman & song. |

| David Bowie – Life on Mars? Lyrics

Sorry if it's already been said, no time to read trough all the comments!
During the early '70s, Bowie experimented with a "cut-up" composition technique. He would write down a potential lyric on paper, cut it to bits with scissors, then re-arrange them at will or randomly.
Life On Mars is said to be a prime example. I mention this, because surely it's going to baffle anyone trying to interpret the song "meaning"? Conversely, it's also possible the meaning is clearer. |

This is so high on my "I wish I'd written that" list. I don't think there's much ambiguity. It's poetic, and not to be touched. The way it's personal, American, and universal all at once is remarkable. |

How can I be 3 of the 4 comments? Is this song not important to anyone? :)
Okay, I am little obsessed. I cannot get away from the idea that nobody would say "realize your fate" lightly. I have my Buddhist bias, but .. |

Sorry if this has been brought up b4 - just read old Rolling Stone piece on In Rainbows; they called this song "depressing, even by Radiohead standards". While I can't express my feelings about this song, I find it entirely uplifting. It's about a turning point. Something that really changes your life. |

This video is a nice performance on Jools Holland's show, with decent audio: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zO2QmmqqSQk
Radiohead are one of those bands who always impress me with how well they can re-create their studio sounds live. |

For anyone who can't find or can't afford Rheostatics' and Martin's CDs, there is a Rheos-approved site of many fan-recorded live shows at http://www.rheostaticslive.com/
The quality varies a lot, but when it's good it's great. When you see the soundboard mentioned in the recording notes, it's likely to be better quality. There's a wonderful set by Martin from Lee's Palace, Toronto, 2005 which includes Voices from the Wilderness : http://www.rheostaticslive.com/Martin-Lees-Apr5-02.shtml |

| Todd Rundgren – Real Man Lyrics

I always thought this was about the vagaries of a restless and very individual spiritual journey. It's clear from Todd's body of work, with it's multitude of spiritual references, that he's looked at many spiritual avenues. I believe he's a Unitarian Universalist now, which makes a lot of sense. |

| Martin Tielli – I'll Never Tear You Apart Lyrics

An astounding song. It floors me every time. The imagery of land, water and beasts - nature, and the total bravery of what's disclosed is stunning. I wouldn't care to guess what Martin's meaning is, but to me, broadly, it seems to be an account of being torn apart by love, with a sort of injured outrageous irony about it. |

Not sure about the meaning. But you know that situation, when certain feelings are dominating your mind, and you briefly allow yourself to envision the whole world through that lens, it's almost surreal, and you're there but only observing. That's how it makes me feel. Dave Seaman's remix on one of the Global Underground series enhances this too, I think. |

I can't find obvious meaning to the words. And as posted, perhaps there wasn't much intended. But it backs up an idea I've always had; that musicians are sometimes capable of bringing together music and words guided only by what they inherently 'know' will have a certain effect. I react joyously to this song, but I'm not really sure why. |

Given that I feel this song is about spiritual enlightenment, I think the chorus is purely impressionistic, and speaks to the explosive nature of realization, or awakening. Perhaps Chris chose the bird analogy to illustrate an unimaginable blossoming of sorts. |

I thought this might be about spiritual enlightenment; the need for it and the beginning of it. In the same way that some feel similarly about Coldplay's 'Speed of Sound'. |

Martin is my favourite musical artist ever, and I don't say that lightly :)
This song is beautifully impressionistic, as are many of Martin's. Loosely, I feel this about a momentous point in his life; contemplation of an important decision; about haunting memories that can be left but not forgotten, about which he feels so strongly, that he will in the end give himself to.
Be sure to check out the unreleased acoustic version, previously called 'The Bridge' - it's available at http://www.martintielli.net/music_downloads.htm |

Amen again. I like all kinds of hip hop, though it's not my main thing. But this record should be high on the list of best albums ever made, in any genre. I don't believe the same Kweli magic has been captured since. I hope it is again in future. |

I love this album so much, it's the one hip hop record I always try to have my friends and family hear (most of them don't think they like hip hop).

For my money, Reflection Eternal is the best hip hop album yet made. Kweli is a genius. It would be enough to produce so many conscious lyrics, but to deliver them all with his unique flow IS, as said above, insane - insanely good!
"Definitely this is how hip hop was meant to be, Eventually"
He got that right. |

... I forgot; I don't think I'd understand this song the same without hearing it. The "it was too much" part of my view is not in the words at all.
But it's what the music does when it takes over after "But then one day, it came, a little". And this punctuation is closer to the singer's, and a shade more revealing. |

Amazing how people see things differently. I have an equally succinct but totally different view of this song:
She was over-protected, and when pain did eventually enter her life, it was too much. But life's like that, and you need to roll with the punches. |
