Waterstriders Lyrics

I'll go when the sun gets lower.
Down by the bridge,
where the amber water pools
and foam gathers in stones by the shore.
[All along the river,
waterstriders play.]
I'm thinking about...
I'm thinking about...
I'm thinking about...

You are descended from the slaves
who escaped to here in the early days.
Bones weathering from the embankment
after the ice broke.
I'm thinking about forever.
I'm thinking about staying.
I'm thinking about...
I'm thinking about how close you came to dying.

When I die please bury me
underneath the hanging tree.
I want to lie with these questions
forever.

Cover art for Waterstriders lyrics by Martin Tielli

Martin is my favourite musical artist ever, and I don't say that lightly :)

This song is beautifully impressionistic, as are many of Martin's. Loosely, I feel this about a momentous point in his life; contemplation of an important decision; about haunting memories that can be left but not forgotten, about which he feels so strongly, that he will in the end give himself to.

Be sure to check out the unreleased acoustic version, previously called 'The Bridge' - it's available at http://www.martintielli.net/music_downloads.htm
