Babyface – Nobody Knows it But Me Lyrics 15 years ago
This isn't Babyface! It's The Tony Rich Project. Great song, though.

Shiny Toy Guns – Ghost Town Lyrics 15 years ago
Hmmm...This stands out as a political message to me. Against communism/NWO, perhaps? Think Chernobyl in Ukraine. Also, under communist rule, many businesses get shut down, and towns become run down. The lyrics are a call to stand up against the powers that be--to send out the message that we aren't going to take it. ???

Miranda Lambert – More Like Her Lyrics 15 years ago
This song confused me when I first heard it because the verses conflict with the chorus. Then, on a second-run, I realized that there is a tone of sarcasm in the song. She's describing the other girl as basically being a push-over, and Miranda is saying, sarcastically, "well I guess I should have been more like that". This "man" (read: immature boy) needs a girl who will put up with his crap.

Green Day – When I Come Around Lyrics 15 years ago
blackmyeyes--I think the song is along those lines too. I don't understand the way other people are interpreting it. There is a huge amount of apathy in the lyrics. Here's my reasoning:

I heard you crying loud,
all the way across town
--She got hurt by some other guy,

You've been searching for that someone,
and it's me out on the prowl
--and is looking for him for comfort and attention, once again. This is probably a repeat pattern for them.

As you sit around feeling sorry for yourself
Well, Don't get lonely now
And Dry your whining eyes
I'm just roaming for the moment
Sleazin' my back yard so don't get so uptight
you been thinking about ditching me
--He is saying that he's right where he was the last time this happened. He's laid back about it, and he knows that she is just using him to lift her spirits. She doesn't realize what she is doing and is confused about what she wants.

No time to search the world around
Cause you know where I'll be found
When I come around

I heard it all before
So don't knock down my door
--Again, this is a repeat pattern.

I'm a loser and a user so I don't need no accuser
to try and slag me down because I know I'm right
--She is letting out her frustration on him. She's probably mad that he is so laid back and not babying her. He's not interested enough in her, isn't giving her enough attention. Since he's so laid back, he's saying "whatever, you're right."

So go do what you like
Make sure you do it wise
--He's telling her, in an apathetic way, to go and find the right person this time, that won't hurt her.

You may find out that your self doubt means nothing
was ever there
--Since she keeps leaving him for other guys, she really doesn't want him. If it's that easy to leave him, then there is nothing meaningful between them.

You can't go forcing something if it's just
not right
--Pretty blatant.

No time to search the world around
Cause you know where I'll be found
When I come around (2 times)
When I come around (sev times)

That's my interpretation. I may be biased, since I've been through the same thing for the past 10 years, although, sadly I feel that I may be the girl in this situation.

Michelle Branch – Stewart's Coat Lyrics 15 years ago
Dude, sidelined, get your mind out of the gutter. Ew. "I will love the salt on my sheets"--She is referring to the sweat he leaves behind after laying in her bed. You know, we sweat pints of sweat each night. She lovingly admires his remnants when he leaves (his coat, and apparently, even his sweat).

Michelle Branch – One Of These Days Lyrics 15 years ago
This song is about a girl who left her boyfriend (or, actually, caused him to leave) because of her insecurities within the relationship. She was "afraid of staying with" him. Maybe the feelings were too intense, or she had low self-esteem—she didn’t feel like she was good enough for him. I think he soon tired of dealing with this, and said, “Hey, I’ve got to move on with my life. Figure things out, and then get back to me” He didn’t have time to wait for her to grow up. She pretended not to care, but in hindsight, she admits that it did hurt her:

I didn't notice
But I didn't care
I tried being honest
But that left me no where
I watched the station
Saw the bus pulling through
And I don't mind saying
A part of me left with you

“One of these days
I won't be afraid of staying with you”—she knows that she is insecure about the relationship, and that was the reason for the breakup.

“Did I make you nervous?
Did I ask for too much?
Was I not deserving
One second of your touch”—She is still insecure.

She is “waiting to find a way back to” him “one of these days”.

This is a beautiful song, but.....wow, these lyrics are way wrong!!

I bet you didn't notice---->I didn't notice

Once I came of your touch ----->One second of your touch

I'd let you feel everything you can get---->I'd let you feel everything I'm thinking

Wouldn't that be enough----->Wouldn't that be nice

The Goo Goo Dolls – Acoustic #3 Lyrics 15 years ago
OK, I've got a new interpretation of this song after listening to it at least 100 times. :) This song is about cycles. This girl didn't have the greatest upbringing. Her parents settled in life. They wanted more, but "the world gets in your way". Things happen, life-changing things, and sometimes you just have to settle for what you have.

The last verse, "they press their lips against you..." is about the girl when she is grown up. The "they" is her (loser) lovers. She is settling for them because that is all she knows. She is continuing the cycle, and she too will give her children a poor upbringing. The man is trying to save her and make her realize that these guys are no good for her, but she isn't willing to listen.

Maybe this man knew her their whole lives, since he talked about her childhood. This line also makes me think this: "And you know I see right through you." He knows her very well. He is witnessing the cycle and is trying to stop it.

Taylor Swift – Come in with the Rain Lyrics 15 years ago
"Talk to the man with the reasons why" and "talk to the man who put you here"--Taylor Swift is referring to God here--a very common reference in country songs.

This song is about unrequited love, or at least unannounced love. She loves a man, and he doesn't realize the deep feelings she has for him: "I've got you down. I know you by heart, and you don't even know where I start."

It sounds as if she has never told him. She doesn't want to come right out and announce her feelings, "I could stand up and sing you a song but I don't want to have to go that far," but she is sick of pining after him, "I'm too tired tonight for all these games" and “I’ve watched you so long
screamed your name. I don’t know what else I can say”, so she is "leaving the window open" and hoping for him to come to her.

For anyone who’s been through it, unrequited love gets old after awhile. It has to end sometime. Sooner or later, you have to give it up and surrender to the circumstances.

OK, here’s my strange interpretation of this song. It’s about a girl who the singer loves. She loves him too, but her parents (the ‘they’ in the lyrics) are manipulating her into not seeing him. They had an unfulfilling life, so subconsciously they don’t want to see their daughter too happy. They lie to her, and at the end of the song, she believes them, and the singer can no longer convince her otherwise.

Hmmm. I'm not sure. This is the meaning I got out of this song the first few times I heard it. The more I listen to it, the more the meaning changes to me.

Yes, it is 'say goodbye'. The song is saying that sometimes when you love someone, the feelings are too powerful for you to handle, so you should let that person go until both of you are ready to feel those feelings together.

I believe the "house on the hill" part refers to rich folks. The ones that have lots of money, but are still lonely.

Vanessa Carlton – This Time Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about unrequited love. She has feelings for a guy, but she doesn't know how to let him know. She wants to make him like her, but she doesn't know how to do that either.

The feelings she has are too much for her to handle "this is more than I can carry". Thoughts of him are taking over her life. She's up late at night just going over and over scenarios in her head about her encounters with this guy and the things she's said to him. It makes her feel insecure and self-conscious, as unrequited love often does to a person.

I'm assuming this guy is a friend that she keeps in and out of touch with: "I just can't walk away, this time". She has more-than-friends-feelings for him, which she's been keeping inside and denying for awhile. She's continuously walking away from this man, but this time the feelings are so strong, they've been kept inside so long, that she can't just walk away. She has to let him know how she feels, but she's unsure if she really should "did I say too much again" (among other lines). She's almost ashamed of her feelings for him.

The Goo Goo Dolls – Here Is Gone Lyrics 16 years ago
I just read through the reviews, and I think Fabulous on page 5 got it head on. She says she's going through this same thing, so there's no wonder why she got it. :)

I love how she mentioned the transition between the verses. I notice that too. I love when songs do that.

The Goo Goo Dolls – Here Is Gone Lyrics 16 years ago
Here's my the interpretation:

The relationship between this guy and this girl is ending because she is pulling away. She has been hurt in the past by someone else and can't let it go. He wants to save her, but she will not let him, she won't open up to him. "I'm not the one who broke you, I'm not the one you should fear."

He knows he has to let her go because his efforts are useless, and he's only hurting himself. He is having a difficult time doing it because he can see that she still needs help. He needs her to tell him that it's OK for him to move on. He's feeling sad, frustrated, confused, irritated, and maybe a bit resentful.

"And I want to get free, talk to me
I can feel you fallin' and
I wanted to be all you need
Somehow here is gone, yeah"

Finger Eleven – I'll Keep Your Memory Vague Lyrics 16 years ago
This song is about two people that are both having a difficult time letting go of each other. They can't be together for whatever reason. It almost sounds as if they maybe were friends before they fell for each other ("but i would never wanna come between the two of us").

The chorus proves that the girl is sad about letting him go, and the verses show that the guy is also sad about it. He's saying, "don't worry, I won't forget about you, but I can't think of you too much because this is hard for me too."

Simple Plan – I'd Do Anything Lyrics 16 years ago
This song's about unrequited love. He and she used to be together either as friends or maybe as something more. I'm leaning more toward the friends idea. They broke up/grew apart. She moved on, but he was never able to. He just wants them to be together so bad. He truly loves this girl. Even "after all these years", he still can't let go, still can't forget her. *SIGH* This song is EXACTLY what I am going through!!! :(

Michelle Branch – All You Wanted Lyrics 16 years ago
LittleCrys got this head on!! I never understood what the first 2 verses meant, but that made it so clear to me. I just wanted to add a little more. First, "so lonely inside, so busy out there." I know someone just like this right now. He has been heartbroken and closed himself off from love. He won't let anyone in, but it makes him very lonely. He keeps himself busy and pretends not to feel the emptiness. He's trying to keep his mind off of his need for love. He's so lonely inside, but so busy out there in the world, and he all he really wants is someone to truly love him. This part, “we figured out that when the time comes I’ll take you away,” I think shows that the guy has feelings for the girl, but he’s scared to let her in. Second, "can you tell me so I can finally see where you go when you’re gone.” This just speaks to me so much. The guy I know will suddenly just disappear and I won’t hear from him for a while. He’s off being “busy out there.” I just want to know where he goes when he’s gone. What is he up to? It could also go back to the first 2 verses. She’s trying to be like him and disconnect herself from her feelings. She wants to know what to do and where to go when she does.
