Stewart's Coat Lyrics
Hold me love,
I can't sleep again,
will I have to kiss your nose,
I wanna lay here next to him,
love,
I remember walking in the rain,
rain was falling on my hands,
I don't wanna live through that again,
no.
I know it takes love, love is a healing thing
When you give everything, you're loving the world
The world gives you love to hold onto, remembering, we seldom remember love.
Just give me many chances,
I'll see you through it all,
just give me time to learn to crawl.
In September,
when the rain comes,
and the wind blows,
I will see you walking in the coat of,
If you let me,
I will keep you here inside the stars,
I will love the salt on my sheets, oh you'll love me.
Just give me many chances,
I'll see you through it all,
just give me time to learn to crawl,
time to learn to crawl,
time to learn to crawl,
time to learn to crawl.
I can't sleep again,
will I have to kiss your nose,
I wanna lay here next to him,
love,
I remember walking in the rain,
rain was falling on my hands,
I don't wanna live through that again,
no.

I love this song, its beautiful. I'm not sure too much about the whole "coat" aspect of this song...but if it just simply means Stewarts coat...that means something to me..because i will never forget my ex's coat..sounds crazy! but i wont...beautiful lyrics in this song and it means so much to me
I believe that this song is a cover and is about some guy's dead dog. I'm not sure, so don't shoot me or anything. Either way it's a great song lyrically and musically!!
It is a cover. Rickie Lee Jones wrote it, purportedly for her newborn daughter. You should see it on You Tube or, better yet, listen to it on one of four CDs of hers.

where the hell you find that song from?
it's not an exact cover... but... Chantal Kreviazuk Stewart's Coat
I love this song, cliched but I feel like I can relate to it.
"Hold me love, I can't sleep again, will I have to kiss your nose, I wanna lay here next to him, love."
When I'm with my boyfriend, and he's asleep, I just watch him, and this line runs through my head repeatedly. That's not a meaning of the song obviously, it's just significant to me.
I love the stuff about, well, love, it's true, when you're loving the world, when you're happy and so on, the world gives you that love in return somehow.
It's interesting to compare this version with the one it's a "cover" of - Michelle's made a few changes that make me think she wants to change the meaning entirely. While Chantal's version seems to be about being in a loving relationship etc etc, with reference to being unsure if she is ready for it, to me it seems like Michelle's version is about being in a relationship where she's not sure if she's ready for sex, where the guy is clearly more experienced and maybe getting a little frustrated with her. She loves the person very much but she's asking him to give her time to take the relationship further physically. Hold me love, I can't sleep again, will I have to kiss your nose, I wanna lay here next to him, love,
Maybe someone else has had the experience of staying over but having a hard time sleeping, being in an unfamilliar situation...
I will love the salt on my sheets, oh you'll love me. I think this one is kind of an obvious reference, once you think about it...
Just give me many chances, I'll see you through it all, just give me time to learn to crawl,
She's saying she feels so far behind - he is "walking" already and she still needs to learn to "crawl", and she's asking him to be patient and non-judgemental.
Dude, sidelined, get your mind out of the gutter. Ew. "I will love the salt on my sheets"--She is referring to the sweat he leaves behind after laying in her bed. You know, we sweat pints of sweat each night. She lovingly admires his remnants when he leaves (his coat, and apparently, even his sweat).
