| t.A.T.u. – Malchik Gay Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Okay, with Malchik Gay translated as gay boy, it's easy to see how the story goes...but before I knew what Malchik Gay meant in Russian I honestly thought this was a song about a lesbian in love with a straight girl. They're friends, this girl is tender and soft, not rough like a man, but she doesn't think of girls that way. The lesbian girl wants to be held like the straight girl holds onto her boyfriend "but it's hopeless." The straight girl finds out about her friend being attracted to her and is either shocked or outraged, causing apologies and all kind of wonders of what might have been. She would like to remain friends but she can't change the fact that she loves the girl. So, yeah, I know that's not what it's about, but I like that idea the best. |

| Katy Perry – I Kissed a Girl Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I was told about this song by a girl who's kind of been giving me mixed signals...so yeah, I figured I needed to give it a listen and see if it might tell me where she was coming from...so yeah, this sounds like it's probably her train of thought :) I don't think bisexuality is wrong AT ALL but I do think that it has been commercialized too much. But hey, sex sells. |

| I Am Ghost – Our Friend Lazarus Sleeps Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
It sounds like they probably went deep into some very cool mythology on this one...i like the Lazarus reference in the title and chorus but I think that's as far as it goes with biblical references. I don't think this has anything to do with it, but there was a comic about a superhero called Spider Queen... |

| My American Heart – The Shake (Awful Feeling) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Wow everyone's comments on this are very general...I don't know anything about this band but I got this from the 07 warped tour comp album which rules my soul... Anyway, I'm glad to see the lyrics cleared up because the line "I'll throw my thoughts into the sea" always sounded like "I'll throw my thoughts to Tennessee" (which I knew was wrong) or "I'll throw my thoughts and tendencies" (which sounded a lot better and made sense enough). So what I hear from the lyrics: he's with a girl that's melodramatic and very jealous, she's boxing him in and it's pushing him further away but he can't get away from her (can't shake her) for whatever reason. Beyond that, no clue. |

| Smoke Or Fire – The Patty Hearst Syndrome Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I always thought that one line was "If Daddy *doesn't know*, and mommy doesn't care" but oh well. I knew about the story of Patty Hearst so of course I knew what the song was about. |

| Killswitch Engage – The Arms of Sorrow Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Amazing vocals on this, actually one of my fave vocalists like...ever. Stop me before I bleed again is also an amazing line...it's like, stop me before I go too far again, trying to fight my way out of this. Obviously about depression but it doesn't really convey helplessness to me. For me it's really comforting, saying that the sorrow is constant and beautiful and can keep you sane...that you are held up by it and can rest there until you can "get better." Freaking amazing song. Still makes me cry occasionally. |

| Amber Pacific – Summer (In B) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I want this song played at my wedding...or maybe I'll just use the chorus as my wedding vows...idk but this song hxc rules and I just hope that someone could feel like this about me. | |
| Escape the Fate – Situations Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Okay, yeah, everyone pretty much has this song covered :) I'd just like to put in that I love it and the band needs to reinstate Ronnie. :( | |
| The Matches – Papercut Skin Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
First of all, I thought the Michael Finnigan thing went: There once was a man named Michael Finnigan He had some whiskers on his chin-again The wind blem them off but they grew back in again Poor old Michael Finnigan (begin again) Anyway...Americancer has to be one of the most amazing words/plays on words I've heard in a long time. I only know two songs by this band, which is sad, because I'm desperately in love with both of them....this song is very much about mundane office life, the same old day in day out. But it kind of starts to drive you crazy.... |
|
| The Matches – Little Maggots Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"may your organs fail before your dreams fail you" is pretty much my usual signoff on chatboxes and such, I use it in everyday life WAY too much, but people will just have to deal with it. That line pretty much sums up the way I see life, that I'd rather die than watch my dreams go up in smoke, so if I'm not going to get them, might as well be dead before I suffer all the sorrow and defeat. And now I sound really emo....darn. I'm not. I also love the maniacal laugh and the whispering, it adds to the overall insanity....loves. |

| Weezer – Freak Me Out Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Okay, so the spider is thing is hilarious and pretty much confirmed by Rivers lol. I got the "gay guy" feel from it like a few others, it was my first instinct. My younger cousin (he's 10) heard and automatically thought of my best friend who is crazy affectionate with him and treats him like he's 4. Oh well, to each his own...Weezer lyrics are easier to pick apart than something like "Drawn to the ones who never yawn" thanks a lot Patd...never mind I'm off topic now. |

| Green Day – Give Me Novacaine Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Before I caught onto the whole Jesus of Suburbia IS St. Jimmy thing, I really thought this was about suicide. I saw it as: the first bits were about the pain JoS felt in his life and wanting to escape from it. The draining the pressure was a metaphor for shooting himself (creating a hole to release the pressure like trepanning). The "Jimmy says it's better than air" didn't come across clearly for me and I always thought it said "Jimmy says it's better than here" and I thought maybe he thought SJ was speaking to him after having diedo or was alive, telling that it was better after death. But once I caught onto the theme more, it became obvious that I wasn't right and the drug meaning was easier. But I still love my original interpretation. |

| The Weird Sisters – Magic Works Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Love this song....makes me think of Ginny and Neville every time. Those two would have made an excellent pair, at least better than HxG. | |
| The Weird Sisters – do the hippogriff Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Since I love WRock (wizard rock) with a passion, this made my day (along with Magic Works) when I saw it in the movie. Jarvis Cocker is brilliant, J.K. is brilliant, how could it have come out anything but brilliant. I think I will have the lyrics "shake your booty like a boggart in pain" etched on my brain forever. | |
| New London Fire – We don't bleed Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Just the title always reminded me of vampires...weird I know, but the interpretation with ghosts is very apparent once you actually hear someone say that's what it's about. | |

I also heard mine on my Eyeball disk but I got a different volume of that, it seems like, than everyone else, because my friend's is similar to mine, but a few of the band's are different. Anyway, I never really thought about the meaning on this one because i like We Dont Bleed better, but I did always see the chorus as being kind of sarcastic and I always sang it that way....the lyric for me is kind of an implied, "Suuuuure, things won't be different AT ALL...whatever" lol that probably sounds weird but that was how I interpreted it the whole time i was listening. |

| Matisyahu – Chop 'Em Down Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I'm not Jewish but I have to say, I love this man! I play his cd very loud and my mother tells everyone to avoid me because I'm having my "Jewish rapper time." "From the forest itself comes the handle for the ax" and "put your faith in the mirage, it's just a smokescreen" are very big lyrics for. The first says, to me, that everything becomes the end for itself, it shows the circle of life. The second is just really, really awesome. |

| Escape the Fate – Cellar Door Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
When I first bought the CD, I interpreted the song the way most people did. However, I now read the Twilight Saga and I just have to write how well the song would relate to it (even though the books came out after the song and therefore the song is definitely not about it). In the Twilight saga, a human girl, Bella, falls in love with a vampire, Edward. She wants to be turned to be with him. Turning someone involves taking no blood, only biting to put the venom in. However, the turning process can be deadly even if too much blood is not taken. So here goes the song with a possible scenario for the turning. We walked through the doorway Heard you calling from the hall To find you in the bedroom Not breathing at all I drug your body to the cellar where we lay The wax, it melts away I kiss your face. (The vampire family hear her screaming in pain as the change takes place, Edward is upset and takes her down to the cellar to keep her away from everyone for a while) Now we are starting to love you more Your body's on the canvas I painted on the floor Now you wait like the drug, like the change And the pain it goes on for so long And oh, how it hurts in the worst way now that you're gone It's so wrong It's so wrong (The vampire family, and especially Edward, realize how much she would have meant to them as one of them. She's dead because of something Edward had planned out (painted) for her. The drug is the morphine given during the change to help calm the pain, the change is the change from human to vampire. It goes on for what seems like forever; it takes three days. It hurts in the worst possible way because it is Edward's fault; he did this to her. It's wrong as in it was unnatural in the first place and now it has caused everyone involved harm.) If I could take you somewhere I'd take you to the darkest place Scatter you in art forms Admire the whore Beauty in different ways Your hands on picture frames Your eyes in the glass Wear your face has a mask (This is what it would have been like if she had become a vampire like him. They are often depicted in art forms across the ages, and they often have human conquests *admire the whore*. Her beauty is different now and her eyes in the glass are red with human blood and she wears her beautiful face to mask her predator side.) Now they are starting to love you more A gallery of your beauty No charge at the door (The actual funeral for Bella; since she was turning during the time of her death she would have already been much more beautiful than she was normally.) And down below Your veins run dry your vacant eyes I lost control Your face is pale, your body's cold And down below your veins run dry your vacant eyes I lost control Your face is pale, your body's cold (Your face is pale, your body's cold) (This is where we find what actually happened. Edward, while turning her, drew blood from her, enough from her to die. Her veins have been drained out and her dead eyes are vacant. This is because he lost his self-control and now she is pale and cold from lack of blood.) So yeah, I thought that was cool that it kind of tied in in my mind. |

| My Epiphany – Body Talk Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I got this song as well as Final Battle on a sampler CD from Eyeball...I fell in love with this song the first time I heard it. so gracefully unaware that he is the brightest boy this girl has ever seen ^ this is one of the best lyrics I've seen...maybe ever? They're simple and it feels like a lot of layered meaning...maybe it's just me and my own tendency to be intensely struck by those I love... |

| t.A.T.u. – Not Gonna Get Us Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Wow, how many times have I played this song wishing I could run away....whether with a person or just alone, getting away from it all, my hypocritical small hometown who doesn't understand and despises anything different from them and traps you like a Venus fly trap... Wow I went off a little there....but yes, obviously it's two people trying to get away from a place that doesn't care for their lifestyle or ideas... The line "Just you and me, all else is nothing" is probably one of my favorite lyrics ever, mostly because it embodies those feelings so well and so simply. |

| t.A.T.u. – Loves Me Not Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I can't say that this exact situation has happened to me, but the feelings have definitely been there. Whether it's applying to friendship or bisexuality isn't important, it's about the tug between too different, equally strong feelings, knowing that you can't have it both way. It actually hurt me the first time I listened to this song and it still kind of takes the breath from me because it hits so close to home. |

| Bright Eyes – At the Bottom of Everything Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
OK, I don't have any clue as to what is going on in this song...I do know that his frantic voice is super eerie in bits like "Oh, it was a wonderful splash!" and "Oh, we'll see it!" It's haunting, really, I haven't heard this song in a long time and I can still hear it in my head. Also, the video for this went perfectly with the song, Evan Rachel Wood is....don't even get me started on the girl. |

| The Smiths – Meat Is Murder Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
We have a "right" to eat them? Being omnivores doesn't make us have a right, eating them makes us omnivores. You've got it a little backwards there. I was a vegetarian for a few months before I heard this song and I was looking for pro-veggie videos on YouTube for a project and found the song. I love it and kind of torture my friends with it when we sit down to lunch. I don't eat meat because I don't believe in things dying when they don't have to, and people who have been vegetarians since birth (like my Hindu friends) prove that you DO NOT need meat to live. Therefore, the animals don't have to die. |

| Adam and Andrew – Myspace Is For Fags Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I adore this song, along with any other song by Adam and Andrew... but honestly, who BLASTS Coheed and Cambria? Seriously, if the rest of their stuff is anything like The Running Free then it's not angry blasting material. Someone should really put up the lyrics for Hey There McGyver, that's the best by A&A. |

| Hawthorne Heights – Breathing in Sequence Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I've been addicted to this song since I got the CD a few years back and after Casey died I listened to it non-stop. The obvious meanings have been put down here already, but it has a really close meaning for me...mostly because I had a really close friendship and kind of fell in love...the other person kind of played around with my heart and then moved on with other people, acting like we had always been only friends and nothing ever happened.. Yeah, I'm gonna cry now. |

| Panic! at the Disco – Behind the Sea (Album Version) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Hmm...can't find anything deeper than just a whimsical sea song yet...but does this sound to anyone else like it belongs in a movie like Juno or Napolean Dynamite....? It feels like it would fit..or maybe it would make a good Modest Mouse song :) | |
| Panic! at the Disco – She's a Handsome Woman Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I haven't really gotten in deep to thinking about the meaning on this one, but I have seen people interpreting the skeleton line as anorexia....I don't see it that way at all. Beat backbones. Grazed the poem and made it strange, I wasn't born to be a skeleton. ^ I feel like that entire bit is made to be understood together. Beat is a noun, not a verb, he's talking about how the poetry set with the music changes his meaning and makes it ready for the public...but the people only see the words and not his real meaning or personality. The songs are just the skeleton, but people think they know him because of it, but that's not all he is or was meant to be. I dunno, that's just how I saw it right at first...I just can't see Panic bringing up anorexia for some reason. |

| Panic! at the Disco – Mad As Rabbits Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Okay, I had never heard Death of a Salesman explained and it does seem very similar to me now, but here's what I got out of it: It's obviously about a relationship in which he's become completely dependent on the person (girl) to tell him what to do. He doesn't even trust himself to decide against doing self-destructive things. Somehow he can't or doesn't want to remember a time when he didn't behave like this. He spends his days providing for her, living the "American dream" but "the stove is creeping up his spine again." He's constantly reminded of his home life which makes him unhappy, and this part of himself is always looking for things to fuel his depression. The chorus seems to me like it's the end of the story, even if it's sung throughout the song. It seems like it's getting at the fact he was being judged by the way he lived every day, so he just throws his family and life away to be wild and free. This is the ultimate dream for him, but the next lines "Who could ask for anymore?" seem sarcastic, as if his freedom is bittersweet, and he would have appreciated a compromise. The voice in his head (the devil that's preaching in the belfry) is telling him that he is being decorated and covered with his accomplishments in his family and his business, hiding the fact that, like a Christmas tree, he's been taken out of his element in the wild and is dying inside. His individuality (clothes) have been taken away at the train station (by his wife or society, the ones who control his coming and going). He's been chained up to die where he doesn't belong (just like Bambi), and the dog also represents another aspect of his mundane life. The cigarrettes confuse me...but the "saving the calendar business" makes me think he is trying to make up for his lost TIME. Okay, last verse :) He's "poor" not in the money sense, but as in, "Awww, that poor little thing." He's fallen into the same fate as his father, working to support a family and sacrificing himself in order to do it (chimney sweeping is a bad job, causes lots of lung problems, his father "couldn't breathe" because of the life he had to live). But he thinks maybe he just stay ignorant to his own pain and keep putting on his facade, because we live out the perfect little roles created and showcased in children's dolls in dollhouses (we live in a toy). Important people (like Paul Cates) can take up old-fashioned proclamations (trumpet/Salvation Army) but it doesn't offer hope of real change. We have to rework our ideas of the responsibilites that come with love and marriage in order to fix the problems with it. |

| Panic! at the Disco – I Have Friends In Holy Spaces Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Okay, first post! I love this album, although I have been putting off buying it because I heard that it was so different. Anyway, as far as this song, this is my opinion: This is a song about a relationship. The guy becomes attached to a girl who reminds her of his former life, whether it be a literal lover or just a way of life that he had chosen then that he had to give up. He's using her to get that feeling back and he's okay with that. She's unknowing walking right down the path he wants her on (walking through the middle of the street) but the holding hands implies that he's kind of leading her against her will, but she doesn't notice because he is doing it lovingly. The chorus sounds like he might be flattering her, to keep her with him. In the first line (you remind me of a few of my famous friends) he's telling her she's just as good as them and he prefers her company over them. The second bit seems to be an afterthough to himself, mocking her, and implying that she has qualities that he doesn't admire in his famous acquaintances (greed, envy, or perhaps she is shallow). The rain is the backdrop for the whole story and it could represent that his feelings about the whole situation are messy or stormy. Maybe he is guilty or confused over this girl's significance to him, when originally all he cared about was being reminded about his past. He's not sure if he loves the memory or the present anymore. He's happy jumping headlong into the mess instead of thinking about or trying to correct it. He invites her to take her shoes off (a dangerous move, she could metaphorically catch cold, risking the chance that she become emotionally involved and have him turn away from her). She accepts and their relationship is made public. He's not outwardly upset that their relationship was founded under such unhappy circumstances, but he would rather have met her on happier terms, so he could be sure that he loved HER and not just the things she reminded him of. Sorry, that is probably way off but this is what I got from the song. I usually don't sit down and try to work through a song, ideas just come to me so I had to try and work through one :) |
