Amazing. Yes. The perfect break-up album.

The Pains of Being Pure at Heart – Belong Lyrics 14 years ago
Yesterday, I ran across a Susan Sontag quote that said, "Two people form a couple; and every couple is an odd couple." I feel like this song sort of epitomizes that. These two people meet, there's an initial attraction, but they hesitate for fear of what other people might think/not fitting some traditional mold. By the end of the song, they've realized that they still like one another and accept the fact that they're misfits--but they're misfits together.

Ohm – Spoon Me Lyrics 15 years ago
Essentially, the song is about a girl who feels comfortable and safe with a controlling lover. She knows that there is "something more" out there, but being with this person is hindering her exploration of it. ("You protect me...from what I want"). Knowing that she can't have both with this person ("Though if I took control, it will not be with you"), she decides to take charge of her life/happiness anyway.

Animal Kingdom – Tin Man Lyrics 16 years ago
This was a freebie on iTunes a few months. Gotta say, the album wound up being my favorite of 2009. Hope to hear more from them in then next year.

The Runaways – Cherry Bomb Lyrics 16 years ago
I'm excited to see Kristen Stewart tackle this role. In real life, she seems to be more of a Joan Jett than a Bella Swan, anyway. I hate how her role in Twilight seems to supercede here acting ability, etc.

This is not my favorite Runaways song.

Cocteau Twins – Sugar Hiccup Lyrics 16 years ago
Eeeee. I thought the same thing. Luckily, I'm a Cheerios fan.

"there's a monumental hugeness to this song, towers above, circles around, laughs and flies back down in victory"

Hello Saferide – My Best Friend Lyrics 16 years ago
I think this should be the song that all female friendships should be guaged by.

Just heard it on last.fm. It's nice.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Zero Lyrics 16 years ago
This song reminds me of Ayn Rand's 'Anthem'.

"Shake it like a ladder to the sun" -- the box, Equality's harnessing electricity

"Makes me feel like a madman on the run" -- fleeing the panel after his idea was condemned

"Better find out where they want you to go." -- A collective mentality; Equality's unwillingness to conform whole-heartedly to his society.

There are others, too.

Flunk – Play Lyrics 16 years ago
At the risk of losing some indie cred, I also first heard this one on The OC.

I have a playlist of really atmospheric, "If I ever decide to get high" music, and this one is on there.

I adore this song. My favorite PGMG tune by far.

Love the 'buh-by now' at the end.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Cold Light Lyrics 16 years ago
That's clever.

I think it's being with a close friend for the first time sexually -- how it's not awkward, but still kind of experimental and fascinating.

Fucking beautiful.

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Clap Song Lyrics 16 years ago
Just found this song! Next best lovey-dovey song on this album after "Hysteria".

Yeah Yeah Yeahs – Shot Down Lyrics 16 years ago
Are we sure it's 'six lane'?

I hate to suggest that most of their songs are pertinent to sex, but this one definitely sounds like it.

Yes! Alice Glass came to mind immediately upon hearing this.

Kristin Hersh – Me And My Charms Lyrics 16 years ago
I had a surreal moment there last fall; Going home to Georgia on a Greyhound bus from a relationship that ended in a less-than-amicable split. The bus passed over this bridge, and all I could think of were the lyrics to this song.

++++ for know that the bridge was in PDX.

The Organ – fire in the ocean Lyrics 16 years ago
This is my favorite song from the Thieve EP. Katie's vocals are at their prime in this song.

The "suck a man off" line always surprises me -- usually because their songs are relatively 'clean' and sexually ambiguous.

Uh Huh Her – Covered Lyrics 16 years ago
Someone did a shit job of copying and pasting lyrics, typos included -- just sayin'.

I like this one, too. UHH's catchier songs tend to suffer lyrically, but this one's really great.

Common – The People Lyrics 17 years ago
I have to agree! I'm shocked no one else has commented on this, a good year or so after this track dropped. Common is so unique beyond words. Definitely an underrated artist.

Fall Out Boy – Growing Up Lyrics 17 years ago
One of the few FOB songs I like.
"...excepts for putting idealists in a bodybag"
Favorite line. Reminds me of my up-and-down relationship with my ex.
Logically, I should've been left in a realist state, yet I'm still the same dreamer.
Thank. God.

Shiny Toy Guns – We Are Pilots Lyrics 17 years ago
HOWWWWWWWWWL.
This is my jam, and everyone's else's at the same time.
Everyone's felt that way, and trying to pinpoint one specific subject won't help. That's the beauty of it, and maybe even the reason it was written.

Love the emphasis on the down beat. Makes a good dance song.

Team Dresch – Hand Grenade Lyrics 17 years ago
I think this song has a lot to do with a time continuum, and the indecisive nature of the speaker. The girl she is referring two is stable in nature, seamlessly counterbalancing the speaker's contradictions and sporadic train of thought.
