| t.A.T.u. – 220 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Taylor, I was trying to figure it out until I read your post about 220 being the standard voltage over there. Everything just kind of clicked then. I don't think electrocution is meant to be taken literally. Instead, I interpret the song as comparing being in love to being electrocuted. It takes a bit of a pessimistic view, because electrocution killing you is the same as love ending. Whether or not they're comparing it to "love" or a "fling" I think is something that can be debated. t.A.T.u. has some incredible song writers. | |
| Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics | 17 years ago |

First off, I had an image of Coldplay in my mind and this was not it. I'm not that big of a fan of modern American music, but I'm making an exception for this song. Anyway, the religious imagery here is amazing. "Viva La Vida" translates to "Live The Life." Which can mean anything from "Live the Revolution" to "Live the Life of Christianity." As suggested earlier, I'm pretty sure this has something to do with the French Revolution. I doubt it's from the point of view of Jesus because he wouldn't need St. Peter to call his name and by most accounts, Christ was the revolutionary. I saw some people thinking it was about the decline of the Catholic Church... but I didn't really get that from this song. If I had to put money on something, it would have to be King Louis XIV or about a fallen rock star comparing himself to Louis XIV and then discovering religion, which isn't that odd. Rock stars have long sang about their popularity declining (Billy Joel, Moody Blues, Niel Diamond, Uriah Heep, etc.), but this is a pretty interesting way of going about it. Either way, I love this song. Kudos to Coldplay. |

| Yellowcard – Light Up the Sky Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I have a slightly darker impression of this song than everybody else. I think the guy is singing about being a Suicide Bomber about to blow himself up for Allah. The firefight represents the war he sees on Islam. "I can't find a wall to pin this too. They're all coming down since I found you." Could be a girl, but you would also take these down if you're embracing a Sharia Law. Let me make this mine. Heaven. "Let me light up the sky, light it up for you.... I'll ignite for you." Let me suggests you WANT to do this, not just that you would be willing to. In all of the noise, I am silence. Suggests that the bomber is at peace with his decision. "Cause you won't have time To cover your eyes To get your disguise They won't ask you why They'll just watch you die" Suggests a raid on the terrorist hideout. Also gives a possible second explanation for the "run through a fire fight" comment earlier in the song. This is the same band that did "Believe" as a tribute to the firefighters of 9/11. |
