Dustin's saying "There's a jackboot toe tap keeping time". A jackboot is an old type of combat boot that's tall with no laces. I know the Nazi's wore them...not sure who else did. |

Obviously, this song is about enjoying a beautiful moment best through pure silence. But I don't think its about him enjoying the company of a lover. I think it's about the narrator watching his child. I get the picture that he's been spending the day with her and it's getting late in the evening but he loves her so much all he can do it sit in amazement at his child sing to herself on a swing. |

| The Dear Hunter – The Oracles on the Delphi Express Lyrics

I always kind of took it as now he is leaving home and going off into the world after his mothers death. He's on the delphi express, which could be a train, ship, whatever. But the people he meets on it, the "oracle's", obviously lack morals. Judging by the swing sound of the song, they dance and they drink and have fun. I don't think their fortune tellers but i do think they help him come to a realization of some sort about his past and the upcoming future. |

| Thrice – Child of Dust Lyrics

When he says "I supplied not your spirit but your shape" he refers to the story of how man was created from clay. The sonnet goes on to talk about that despite the fact that we use the Earth for our own will without care anymore.
The main point is despite this, our bodies will once again return to the Earth and that because all of the energy in the universe is finite, ours will be used to create something new "A child of dust to mother now return;or every seed must die before it grows." And teaching us "truly how to sleep" might refer to us only understanding this when we are dead.
The fact that here the Earth is talking about man as its child and the fact it is willing to forgive man for his misdeeds does purposely draw parallels to God. Although, I really do not believe this is about God as much as it is about the Earth. |
