The Oracles on the Delphi Express Lyrics

Stick with us, throw your morals out the door
You aren't in the land of the river and the lake no more
Makeshift schemes, we've got plenty here for you
Lock away your dreams and throw away the key

You've been stuck in the middle of patience and animosity
With a lust for solidity, and a cryptic history your lucks running thin

Crimson hands, brandish words which masquerade
If you flee from grace your souls can not be saved
Big steam ships, exits illustrate the flaw
Don't be ashamed of your amore faux pas
When the bombs go off you'll know right where you are

You've been stuck in the middle of patience and animosity
With a lust for solidity, and a cryptic history your lucks running thin

You've been stuck in the middle of patience and animosity
With a lust for solidity, and a cryptic history your lucks running thin

Oracles are people who can see the future. to increase the meaning the city of Delphi in greece was where the oracle used to reside. They're definitely spelling out his future in a very cryptic manner. Crimson hands? sound anything like "you can't be caught red handed if you're not red handed"?

Big steam ship? well i think vital vessel vindicates is about him leaving on a ship. there are even dock sounds in the background.

Super dude, Amore faux pas would be a blunder in love. sounds like his ordeal with miss leading

Put this song together with the other ones, im sure there's connections

as for the bombs going off... maybe thats coming in another act?

Now we know that the bombs going off are referring to the war he's in in Act III

These..oracles or what-have-you know EXACTLY where he's coming from, almost as if they have seen this type of case before? They're basically telling him to change his values and priorities, because where he's going he's going to be out of luck with his current attitude.

"When the bombs go off you'll know right where you are"

These oracles definitely know something that they're not telling him.

in this i think he is leaving the land of the river and the lake. He is on the "delphi express" and the oracles are telling him how he can sort of start over

The feel of the song is more powerful than the lyrics I think. It's got a very, Alice in Wonderland feel almost. It's something fresh and dangerous and exciting and scary. To me it is the Oracles showing him this brash new world where there's really no rules.

Are the Oracles supposed to be telling him his future? If so: "Crimson hands, brandish words which masquerade" could be a future reference of Ms. Leading.

I always kind of took it as now he is leaving home and going off into the world after his mothers death. He's on the delphi express, which could be a train, ship, whatever. But the people he meets on it, the "oracle's", obviously lack morals. Judging by the swing sound of the song, they dance and they drink and have fun. I don't think their fortune tellers but i do think they help him come to a realization of some sort about his past and the upcoming future.

i want to think it's a train because i always thought "express" was something to do with trains. and also, on the dear hunter website, there is a section called "the station" or something along those lines.

yet in the lyrics it says "Big steam ships, exits illustrate the flaw" so then again, maybe it's a ship?

"Don't be ashamed of your amore faux pas" should be "amour" i believe. "faux pas" as a phrase in french means "false step" so his false step in love? this must be talking of the future, of ms. leading, unless anyone else has any other ideas?

Quite sure it's a train. The sounds/music leading into this track (at the end of The Lake and The River) sound like a locomotive. Plus, like the Orient Express, I like to think it's a cool train with random crazy folk.

it has to be a train.. the end of the lake and the river leads into this with a train chuggin along in the background.. you can hear it

Right then, allow me to explain to that last. A faux pas is defined by Dictionary.com as a slip or blunder in etiquette, manners, or conduct. The best way to visualize this is those comedy movies when there's a group of people joking about themselves, then a newbie in the group makes a rather daring joke in that area, and he/she actually offends someone, and the awkward silence that follows. By making that offensive joke, that person has committed a faux pas.

Unfortunately, the real meaning of faux pas makes no sense in this context.

I just saw this played live, and I've got to say, it was the highlight of the show for me. They did a fantastic job.

Wow do you think this was planned for Act III? The oracles seem to tell his future:

"Big steam ships, exits illustrate the flaw" When the bombs go off you'll know right where you are

"Don't be ashamed of your amore faux pas" His regret and disappointment of his relationship with Ms Leading (apparent in Act III)

"When the bombs go off you'll know right where you are" Finding his feet and starting over in Act III after he is saved from bombing in the war.

I think this song does relate to 'Red hands' where in this song they mension 'crimson hands'. I think this is about the oracles warning him of the future,

"You've been stuck in the middle of patience and animosity With a lust for solidity, and a cryptic history your lucks running thin"
