| Missy Higgins – Steer Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I think this song is about realising the influence that you have on your own life and taking control. "so now you finally know that you control where you go, you can steer". It's about realising that you are in charge of your own life and what happens to you, that you can steer your life in any direction you want to. Bimbo_k8 I don't know HOW you managed to interpret this song as whinging! It is inspirational and uplifting. The only line that I can see that may have confused you would be "the city screams and all your dreams go unheard" However, she is saying that sometimes you feel as though you are only one person in a big city and you are easily lost amongst the people, and the chorus then follows with "but the search ends here..." meaning that despite how small you feel, you control your life and you can do and achieve anything. Pyros411, I'm with Dreamerman on this one- I think the lyric is 'fierce' not 'fearless', although either word fits nicely :) |

| Maroon 5 – Sunday Morning Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Ahh, waking up on a sunday morning in the middle of winter...it's cold and raining outside and YOU don't have to get outta bed! You pull come covers over to your side of the bed ('cuz ur lover has 'hogged' them during the night) and cuddle up together nice and close. It is one of the most beautiful places to be! Making love ('back and forth we sway like branches in a storm'- I like how this ties in with the wild weather outside!) and afterwards ('change of weather') you cuddle up again and doze off ('still together when it ends'). Can someone explain to me why the Bridge then goes: '....life gets hard to do...I would gladly hit it road...if I knew...it would lead me back to you' ?? The first part is really beautiful, so why does he then say that he could happily venture off into the world if he knew that the road would one day take him back to her?? |

| Missy Higgins – This is how it goes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this is about a girl in a relationship whose partner doesn't allow her to have her own opinion, or won't listen to her point of view. She 'cracks it' ("suddenly I can't stay in this room...i have nothing left to say") and reluctantly walks out (either literally or on the relationship all together) in the hope that her partner will come running after her and say sorry. Of course, this doesn't happen, and she goes crawling back because, as much as she knows she is not being heard, she loves them too much to really leave them. Her partner knows that she will always come running back: they have the power in the relationship. I really feel her angst- her partner comes across as though they don't appreciate her, respect her or care as much as they should! When she sings "in case you chase me", it is almost a plea- she knows they won't! | |
| Missy Higgins – Stuff And Nonsense Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I love how on the album "She Will Have Her Way" Missy states that this song has the ability to be beautiful and heartbreaking at the same time (or something along those lines! I tried to find this quote- without luck!) I heard this song for the first time whilst I was trying to work through the end of a relationship. It put everything I was feeling into one song, and I almost felt as though it was written about me! Here's how I related to it: 'Disobey my own decisions, I deserve all your suspicions' She made the choice to commit to him, to be in a relationship, but she has disobeyed that decision by being with someone else. She has been unfaithful and he suspects this, but she denys it, knowing full well that his inability to trust her is rightly deserved. 'first it's yes and then it's no, I dilly-dally down to you...' She can't commit to him, can't make up her mind whether she wants to be with him. She knows that she needs to tell him whether she's 'in' or 'out' but she procrastinates in giving him her final answer because she is confused and doesn't know how she feels. 'But i've got no secrets that i battle (babble?) in my sleep. Won't make promises to you that I can't keep' Despite the fact that she has been unfaithful and kept this a secret, she doesn't dwell on this because she is being honest by saying that she's unsure about the relationship and doesn't know if she can commit. She won't say she'll commit because she can't uphold that promise. '...I don't know about the future. That's all stuff and nonsense' She has little faith in love and long-term commitment. 'I once lived for the future, every day was one day closer. Greener on the other side, I believed before I met you...' At one point she thought the relationship was going somewhere- she entered the relationship with the intention of having a future with him, but soon realised that 'the grass is greener on the other side'- relationships and commitment aren't what they are cracked up to be! 'I soon learned that your love burned brighter than the stars in my eyes. Now I know how and when...why' She doesn't love him as deeply as he does her and she now sees this. Although the second verse draws this conclusion, the reiteration of the chorus brings the focus of the song back to her confusion about how she really feels. |

Gay or straight relationship, it is about a relationship none the less - I think this is a minor and insignificant detail. Someone, who for some reason does not want the world to know about the relationship (possibly because they are not openly gay, or maybe because they simply have a fear of commitment). When I first heard this song, I drew a comparison to a relationship that I was having at the time (with the opposite sex) so I believe the gender of the protagonist is irrelevent. 'I woulda shouted it loud, broken through...' She wanted to declare her love to the world; broken through whatever barriers there were (okay, so maybe this barrier is the stigma that still surrounds gay relationships?) |

Ungrip me - she wants to let go of the bitterness. 'Unlearn me' is referring to the previous line - 'Now you know my places and you know that face' |

The words inbetween are: ungrip me, unlearn me oh ungrip me oh... |

thanks hkbm for noting that- I almost cried when I read the mistakes! I think this is a bout a relationship that is almost at its closure. She's fucked it up, and she's frustrated, angry with herself. I think it talks about throwing caution to the wind or possibly giving up, not caring anymore, maybe cuz nothing else matters anymore cuz she 'broke it'. Hmmm...what do others think? |
