Guillemots – Don't Look Down Lyrics 15 years ago
"You're a speck of dust/ I'm a speck of dust/ One day we'll fall on everyone" Beautiful. Stops me in my tracks every time.

Guillemots – We're Here Lyrics 15 years ago
This song seems like a precursor (musically and lyrically) to "Faster than the Setting Sun". Or is it just me?

Guillemots – Sea Out Lyrics 15 years ago
This is a close second to "Blue Would Still be Blue" for Guillemots songs that make me cry. I don't know what this song is or isn't about, all I know is it gets to me - every time. Maybe it's the very raw, emotional vocals by Fyfe, or maybe it's the simple melancholy tune. I'm basing this upon the solo piano version, by the way.

Fyfe Dangerfield – Awake, Asleep Lyrics 15 years ago
Two corrections, I think. "LIFE, will you ever make a man of me?"
and
"We're lovers. But we're STARVED."

The line in the second refrain should read: "who needs FRIENDS when all they have's opinions"

Fyfe Dangerfield – Awake, Asleep Lyrics 15 years ago
This is one of the most heartbreaking songs I've ever heard. To me this song is pretty obviously about a miscarriage.

I adore this song. I think it's about George W.

Neil Finn – Turn And Run Lyrics 17 years ago
Neil has quite a talent for writing unconventional love songs and this is one of his very best. I agree with enchiridion that this is about married life, probably specifically inspired by his marriage to Sharon. I think the song is a statement that their love is like a wall or a force field that cannot be penetrated. "You can pull us down, but you can't break our love." What perfect imagery.

Jack said in an inteview once that he's never written a song about Meg. I don't believe him.

Crowded House – Better Be Home Soon Lyrics 17 years ago
Actually, Jaimeson, I think you're right. I had heard that Neil wrote this song about Tim and the tumultuous relationship he had with him for while.

Crowded House – Private Universe Lyrics 17 years ago
There's definitely a feeling of a dark cloud hanging over one's head in this song- and it comes as much from the atmosphere and the melody as the lyric.

I first heard this song when my husband was diagnosed with cancer. At the time I felt like the song was about watching someone you love fade away.
Time is precious, ("Time is on the table and the dinner's cold"); Wishing that you could make time stand still ("endless summer") and "lift the curse"; bargaining with a higher being ("birds talk to me, if I go down on my knees"); and wanting to make all the pain and the chaos go away and exist only in your "private universe".

I believe Kyms' story about the song, but this is what it will always be about to me. It's a great example of how the true meaning of a song is ultimately in the mind of the listener.

Crowded House – Into Temptation Lyrics 17 years ago
I was reading an interview with Elvis Costello in which he singled out Neil Finn as one of the greatest living songwriters. Costello also said he wished he had written this song.
