| Epica – Martyr Of The Free Word Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I absolutely love this song, but does it strike anyone else as a little hypocritical? Mark has spent the last three Epica albums (and possibly some After Forever ones as well, but I don't listen to them) ripping into religion ("Cry For The Moon" "Living A Lie" etc) and now he's urging everyone to listen and respect other people's beliefs? Other than that, I think the song gives out a positive message, one everyone would do well to listen to. |

| Tarja Turunen – Enough Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this is about Nightwish, Tuomas in particular. Tarja's response to 'Bye Bye Beautiful' ... a little late, yeah, but better than never :) I took 'all dirt will leave a trail' to mean that all the things Tuomas said about her in the letter will prove to be false and he'll be discredited. In Tarja's eyes, of course, because we don't know what went on. |

| Epica – Living a Lie (The Embrace That Smothers Part VIII) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think this song is another one by Epica commenting on corrupt religion is. Mark growls the lines by the 'man of God' showing how sinister and demonic the supposed figure of trust is. "Don't believe what you see, believe in me, in my reality" suggests that religion urges people to forget what they see (i.e - the way things really are) and instead believe in God. 'In my reality' shows that people who believe in God are in a different reality than the rest of us. The parts sung by the female choir represent the innocent people who cry out to God for genuine help, only to be answered by the lies of the Church, telling them to put all of their faith in something which doesn't exist. Simone is the voice of reason, telling these people that believe that they 'refuse to face the facts'. Alternatively (I haven't decided yet :P) she is telling those who don't believe that God clearly exists and they're just refusing to see it. They all wait for the day that God or Jesus will 'break out and reawake' although admit that their hope is waning, comparing it to 'a desert running dry'. The growls are back as the man of God mocks them with ‘lies!’ Aside from “In nomine Patris, et Filii, et Spiritus Sancti, Amen” which I’m assuming means ‘in the name of the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, Amen’ I’ve no idea what the Latin bit means, so I’ll just gloss over that. “I can't wait at this rate” suggests that the religious people have given up waiting for God, as he’s never going to come and save them. This is all just my interpretation of the song, I don’t mean to offend anyone who’s religious. |

| Breaking Benjamin – The Diary of Jane Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Just repeating here, but I think that the guy wants to be loved by Jane so much that he tries to think of ways he can get her attention by doing the things that she likes. When that fails, he tries to think of things that would hurt or annoy her because then at least he'd be on her mind: "Try to find out What makes you tick as I lie down" There's a fine line between love and hate, and if she hates him then she's closer to loving him than before. He accepts this and 'doesn't mind' that she hates him, as long as she feels something for him. "There's a fine line Between love and hate And I don't mind" |

| Evanescence – Lies (Remix) Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I think I prefer the original because it was very gothic but this version is great as well. I love the new way she sings: "You will never be strong enough You will never be good enough You were never conceived in love You cannot rise above" |
| Evanescence – Lies Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Amy Lee has said multiple times that Evanescence are not a Christian band, so I don't understand why they'd write a song about Jesus. I think that this is about that small voice inside your head that tells you that you're weak and unworthy of praise and affection. "You will never be strong enough You will never be good enough You were never conceived in love You will not rise above" is the voice whispering sinisterly. In my opinion, anyway. "They'll never see I'll never be I'll struggle on and on to feed this hunger Burning deep inside of me" Is the person acknowledging their doubts and believing them to be true. I love this song so much, it's so dark and gothic ^_^ |

| Evanescence – Tourniquet Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Not to be morbid (although this song kind of is) but isn't death an eternal tourniquet? It stops you from bleeding and feeling pain, right? So instead of asking God (or whoever) to save her, she really could just be asking to die. Either way, I love this song and 'Fallen' is one of my favourite albums ever. |
| Evanescence – Lithium Lyrics | 17 years ago |
"Here in the darkness, I know myself" - the darkness is familiar and comforting to her. She doesn't have to think or feel because the numbness she feels envelops her and shields her from everything but also from happiness. Just my take on a beautiful song. |

| Nightwish – Lagoon Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Actually, I think that 'without a friend (without a serpent)' could possibly mean that friends are likely to betray or mislead you at one point in your friendship. Either way, Tarja's vocals in this are amazing. |
| Nightwish – Astral Romance Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I definitely prefer the 2001 remake ... Tuomas has many, many talents but, I'm sorry to say, singing just isn't one of them. This really is a beautiful song though. |

| Nightwish – Bye Bye Beautiful Lyrics | 17 years ago |
The following is assuming that this is a song about Tuomas loving Tarja: "Noose around a choking heart" This, to me, is about Tarja's last days in Nightwish. Her actions were already causing Tuomas' love for her to become difficult but either the something she did was the catalyst or the letter that he sent became the final straw. A noose was thrown around a heart that was already dying. "Eternity torn apart" Tuomas had expected Nightwish to stay together forever (well, you know what I mean) and so all the future (or his future) has been torn apart and changed because Tarja isn't in the band anymore. "Slow toll now the funeral bells" He is mourning the loss of Tarja, either as a soulmate or an old friend. I think it makes sense for Tuomas to have been in love with Tarja considering all the lyrics he wrote for her to sing ('Ever Dream' etc.) but I can also see how the lyrics can just be interpreted as a deep friendship. |

| Within Temptation – What Have You Done Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love the contrast between the whispered 'would you mind if I hurt you? Understand that I need to. Wish that I had other choices than to harm the one I love' and then the demanding 'what have you done now?!' To whoever said that this song is rubbish and Avatar is retarded is disagree strongly with both. This is the best WT song (in my opinion, of course) and Avatar just rocks :P I think that this song is about a betrayal of some sort. The lyrics suggest it was something stronger than adultery, although I have no idea as to what it could be. This song is amazing live and Sharon really is beautiful. |

| OneRepublic – Apologize Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think the death references in this song are metaphorical. As in, he's dying inside because he loves this girl so much but he can't keep getting hurt like this. It's actually quite a beautiful song... | |
| Red – Already Over Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I've only just found out that Red were a Christian band (well, to be fair I've only just found out about Red) but it never crossed my mind that this song was about God. I respect all of your opinions, but I disagree that this song is about religion. The lyrics aren't a positive reaction to finding and loving God; in fact the singer sounds pretty downbeat about it, as: 'suffocating me, under my skin' and 'nothing left to lose' suggest to me. I'm not a Christian but this sounds like a person giving into pressure and that isn't what religion about. | |
| Nightwish – Sleeping Sun Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| A beautiful way to leave the earth for a few minutes...a true song for all the escapists and wayfarers out there. | |
| Nightwish – The Riddler Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Pretty much just repeating what everyone else said here, but whatever. To me, the song is about the bliss of ignorance and how life's mysteries shouldn't try to be solved. It's better to live without knowing too much, as the lines: 'Still, sweet ignorance is the key To a poet's paradise Challenge the Riddler and you will see' suggest. If you try to find out the mysteries that The Riddler doesn't want you to know, then you'll live in misery for knowing too much about life. I love the lines: All mothers beneath the Earth and sky Hold their children's hands for a while Their hearts forever I'm pretty sure that my grandmother has that on a fridge magnet ^_^ |

| Nightwish – 7 Days to the Wolves Lyrics | 17 years ago |
Although I've never heard this interpretation before, I think that antimental has it spot on. I was wondering about how the line 'and suffer like all the dead children' could fit into the theory, and this is my take on it: If a person doesn't want to be taken by the wolves then their live must be full of value and personal success. Children have only been on this earth a short while (well, it depends on when you think a child turns into an adult: 13, 16, 18, 21 or something else) and it's very unlikely that they would've made the most of their lives, considering the majority of it would've been spent learning to walk, talk and properly grasp their surroundings (again, depending on what age a child stops being a child). Therefore, the children will be caught by the wolves and suffer for not making their lives meaningful. Okay, made a lot more sense in my head.. Another interpretation I had is that children aren't expected to die young, therefore when they do they suffer because they've missed out on a full life. |

| Nightwish – Dead To The World Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I love this song...and a lot of your comments make sense. This song has so many memorable lines but the one I'm going to quote is 'it's not the monsters under your bed, it's the man next door that makes you fear, makes you cry for the child'. To me, this is saying why fear the imaginary monsters when there are human monsters close by? If anything, it's better to fear the monsters under your bed because they can't do any harm compared to the cruelty of humanity. Marco's voice is amazing in this and when he duets with Tarja...well, this song is just brilliant. |

| Three Days Grace – Pain Lyrics | 17 years ago |
I disagree that this song is entirely about sex, although some lyrics suggest that he thinks having sex will make him feel some powerful emotion ("when the lights go out, you'll understand") but he feels just as empty later on. He could associate sex with love, a strong emotion which he needs to feel. But seeing as he doesn't get the love he needs from his sexual encounter, her yearns for another strong emotion: pain. When you're so far gone that nothing in the world affects you emotionally, you wish for pain because it's a sign that you're alive. Also when a tragedy has happened (someone has died, breaking up from someone you love, etc.) you usually cry to get the hurt out. But when you can't cry or feel anything, there's no way to get the pain out. Some self-harmers cut themselves as a form of release, a way to feel something. Not saying that this song is about self-harming, but it's one interpretation. |

| Three Days Grace – (I Hate) Everything About You Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This is my favourite song. Like loads of other people on here, I can really relate to it. My story (because I know you're all just desperate to hear it :P) is that I fell for a guy. We'd talk for ages and text loads but one day he text me saying he'd gotten a girlfriend. Although I still loved him, I hated him so much for making me feel the way I did over him. I really don't think that this song is confined to just one thing though, it can be about anything that you have a love/hate relationship with. | |
| Nightwish – Ghost Love Score Lyrics | 17 years ago |
This song is incredible, definitely the best of Nightwish. I love how the song starts out with a sort of warning: 'if you be the one to cut me, I'll bleed forever' and about seven minutes later the chorus rolls around again, but this time with 'you were the one to cut me, so I'll bleed forever'. To me, this song is about betrayal. I don't know how and I don't know why, but one lover betrays the other. I'm new on this site, so bare with me for a moment :) My interpretation of 'if you be the one to cut me, I'll bleed forever' is that the persona will never get over the pain if her lover betrays her. That's the simple one. If I wanted to be completely analytical (read: wrong) then I could say that the persona is so much in love with her lover that she will do whatever he wants her to. If he cuts her, his intention is for her to bleed, so she will bleed forever because he wants her to. Anyway, beautiful song that I can lose myself in. Completely epic, without doubt the best song that I've ever heard (Nemo is my favourite Nightwish song, but I think that Ghost Love Score is better if that makes sense). I'm seeing Nightwish live on Friday, but I wish that I had seen them with Tarja just so I could listen to this song. |
