| Incubus – Zee Deveel Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I agree that this is an homage (maybe a ripoff) of Primus and their sound. I have only heard a couple Incubus tracks but I know my Primus. The beginning of this song sounds too much like "The Duchess and the Proverbial Mindspread" for comfort. But whatever, I like "Zee Deveel" anyway. | |
| Frank Zappa – Son Of Mr. Green Genes Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Okay . . . for starters, the title is "Son of Mr. Green Genes", not "Son of Mr. Greengenes". That is the first issue. Next, this song is not even "Son of Mr. Green Genes", but actually "Mr. Green Genes", as released on 'Uncle Meat'. "Son of Mr. Green Genes" is a heavily arranged, though jam session-esque, variation on "Mr. Green Genes" and was released on 'Hot Rats' by Zappa and Ian Underwood. "Son of Mr. Green Genes" has no lyrics. "Mr. Green Genes" is a track from Zappa and the Mothers album 'Uncle Meat [Most of the Music from the Mother's Movie of the Same Name Which We Haven't Got Enough Money to Finish Yet]'. It was also rendered live, lyrics included, on 'The Best Band You Never Heard In Your Life'. It is a shame that real Zappa fans don't get on this site and add the interpretations to these fantastically odd lyrics . . . |

| Tom Tom Club – Genius of Love Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
"The roll call covers the gamut of influences (R&B, funk, soul, reggae, rap, rock), which should be obvious, except perhaps Jim Bohannon, a pop culture radio host who used bumper music." ism - I just wanted to point out that the Bohannon chant in Genius of Love is referring to Hamilton Bohannon, a disco band leader and drummer. This fits in nicely with the evolution of modern dance music theme. Jim Bohannon began using the chant as a lead in for his show after the song became a hit. Also, the lyric "shakin' to Bob Marley" is incorrect; it should be "skankin' to Bob Marley". Skanking is a type of dance popularized in Jamaican Dance Halls. Skanking came about when Ska musicians needed a way to keep their upper bodies steady (to play their horns) and dance at the same time. Also, before ska, rocksteady was the main type of music heard in these halls, a slower dub type sound that made crowds sway and groove instead of dance around. Besides the quick music history lesson, I don't have much to add. Props to The Muscle Animal for covering the feel and style of the song so nicely. |

My favorite Matches song. I don't quite get the 'it's too easy being great' part though. . . |

| The Matches – AM Tilts Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| OR, once I hear it again, waking up with a hangover. | |

| The Matches – AM Tilts Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I get the impression that he talking about some kind one night stand but am probably off . . .Matches lyrics confuse me sometimes, especially if I have not heard it enough. | |

This song is great. When they play it live they sing "One Of Us" instead of the "Da Da Dat" on the album. It reminds me of every black-haired-pale-skinned-cigareete-smoking-shittymusic-loving EMO at every high school in the country. |
