To me it's about making a move on a girl, the first verse is pretty explanatory, every guy EVER has have to have had these thought processes: you're hanging out with a friend, you have feelings for her, but she doesn't know, and you're wondering when/how you're going to make your move... The chorus, to me, is Jim talking to himself (kinda like in Lucky Denver Mint) "When the time we have now ends, big hand etc.." means hours pass by, and you still haven't told her how you feel or anything. You've seemingly missed your perfect chance. "Can you still feel the butterflies? Can you still hear the last goodnight?" And of course, in classic J.E.W style, Jim beats himself down. Reminding himself how pathetic he is. "and the mindless comfort grows, when I'm alone with my big plans" "and this is what she says gets her through it: If I don't let myself be happy now then when, if not now when?" 1st line is kind of obvious. 2nd line, they're starting to talk about relationships, and she is still oblivious to everything so she blurts out random phrases and anything, and upon hearing this line come out of her mouth, he deduces that she's not into him after all and decides that telling her he has feelings for her can only go wrong. ^ I know it sounds weird when I explain it... but its guy logic. If you're a guy.. you'd know. Together with Crush... kinda melts your heart doesn't it. Once you've experienced these things, i don't know all of a sudden a light clicks in your head and it makes sense. |

Yeah this song is great! Favourite off the new album. What a great storyteller. I don't think this is a personal song, maybe based off experiences but I do agree that this is about getting caught up in a lifestyle, causing those you left at home to drift away from you. The lyrics are pretty literal, I guess. |

this song is so obviously about drugs i cant believe people are denying it. although, its not specifically about drugs, its just about going through personal issues and whatever and in the end turning to drugs or alcohol or whatever else to numb the pain of living, to escape from your personal problems. the last lines of the song sums it up perfectly. |

@commonswift "folding a map," as in unfolding and opening up a map. ie, ben laments the complication of the long distance relationship and remarks that in the old days without airplanes, speedtrains etc... his significant other wouldn't be so far away (because those means of transportation would not have existed). There'd be no distance that could hold us back makes perfect sense in that context. anyway this song is a gem. Too many people care about New years, which makes me feel lonely and shit on new years eve even though its just another day. |

| what the... how the hell is this song about drugs? if it had to be about anything its about the resentment that a person holds for those who are "better off" than yourself who can do whatever the hell they want without regard for the consequences... That's the impression I get anyway, I'm probably wrong but i can't believe the line "there's chemicals in the clouds" is tacky enough to be a drug reference. | |
