In Flames – The Chosen Pessimist Lyrics 17 years ago
I think it's pretty OBVIOUS that this song is about Sweeney Todd, the demon barber of Fleet Street. The implications are subtle but numerous. Looking at the lyrics from this perspective you can see that the song is Sweeney's story, possibly as he sings it to his razors, about his descend into madness and how his love has turned to vengeance. Playing the good or evil part is vengeance for love (connection with the song My Friends). Carving is name to stone is deciding to kill everyone (connection with Epiphany) Approaching constant failure is about how he in the end gives up because everything has fallen apart and his vengeance has eaten itself out. Lastly I leave you this stanza:

"Amused by the trials and tribulations / If I survive I fly from here / But as the chosen pessimist"

This one is QUITE self-explanatory I should say. As said earlier. it's pretty OBVIOUS this is about Sweeney Todd, the demon barber...
Of Fleet Street!

Not like I bother raging at people over the internet a lot... But I'm sick of people trashing newer In Flames. I love TJR and Colony etc. as much as any real fan. But if you have nothing smart to say that we haven't heard a million times about you whiners, please go either:
1) Listen to the old tracks or something else
2) Make In Flames music yourself because you obviously know how to better than they do.
3) Move somewhere without internet (I'm tired of you)

In Flames – Sober and Irrelevant Lyrics 17 years ago
In my experience Anders seems to often write lyrics that purposefully mislead their readers... If this is about his (their) direction as a band it's more likely about the irony of people who supposedly love this band trashing it much more than people who actually hate it

I can't help but get the feeling this song is about people who whine about the evolution of In Flames... Read the lyrics, it makes perfect sense.

And I mean look at the whole EP... The cover for instance; study it a little and I think you'll see how this single might be about In Flames' current relationship with their past

I'd say this is about how you all whiny "true fans" of IF make them feel like they're villains for creating music for themselves, not to your personal tastes.
