Saw Qosta 4/15/2014 in Portland. Josh this song was for his best friend Nick Oliveri. Later one he got up on stage and performed "You Think I'm Not Worth a Dollar...." It was awesome. Not sure it the lyrics hold any special significance towards their friendship though.... |

Jagged Little Pill came out when I was in high school. I was crazy about every track. Whenever I heard "Perfect" I would grouse to myself about my family, my parents, and their expectations. Just the other day I heard this song again, for the first time as a parent of a 6 yr old. I was just floored, humbled, it's so hard to NOT be the parents in this song. I'm going to listen to it often just to remind myself that our children's lives are for them, not as a continuation of our youth. |

Great great song. It seems partly a tribute to the greatest generation that repelled the Nazis expansion. However one part of a verse seems a bit sarcastic and takes a rather abstract view of the conflict: "There's a house on fire and there's someone lying dead We gotta clean up the streets And get me back on my feet Because we wanna be free" It's a bit ironic that there are all these things they have to do (maybe forced to do) in order to be "free". |

Wow....this song couldn't be more straightforward yet you guys are tripping over your dicks trying to figure it out. Of course it's a satire. It is nothing about a celebration of evil things. Whomever said "fatalist" earlier....spot on! You gotta love the lines: "the blizzard of the world has crossed the threshold and it has overturned the order of the soul" That about sums up the whole meaning of the song. Most folks won't look past the racial connotations of the pre civil war south to realize this song is really just exorting "good ole' southern values" not racism. I love the delivery in the song.
