Well it says "Since you left the earth". I always got the impression she was dead. And it's driving him crazy. He's doing everything he can think. She's staying up north? He means she's dead, watching him from somewhere above or something. And the cold is how he feels- he misses her. The symbols she's flashing him, he's probably imagining. I think she may have killed herself, too. Because he talks about not seeing the signs and such, not seeing the warnings. I love this song. |

| This is one of my all time favorite songs. To me, it's about a boy who's in love with a girl. Of course. I mean really head over heels with her. And she's spiraling in a way that prolly isn't great for her, or anyone, really. And people keep telling him, "she's not worth it man" and "she'll just hurt you" because well, she will. But there's no talking to him. Even though she's turning him away right now, he'll be right there when she comes back, when she realizes she needs him too. I am in love with this song. She's stuck and wants him to be enough but he just can't be sometimes, and she seeks comfort in other guys, in knowing they want her. In knowing they will never forget her, and she will have something to hold onto when she is hurting herself (emotionally). She knows no one can save her from herself, it sounds like she's just trying to break herself down until she's reduced the the most damaged girl she can be. And he loves her. He must love her a VERY lot, and be new to such love, because he's so willing to stay with her. It seems he understands that she needs help (just like it says) but he knows he can't really help, and it's probably keeping him up at night, and hurting him as much as it's hurting her. He wants to leave but he just can't leave her to be swallowed whole by herself. And the narrator, maybe he's a good friend of them both. Or he used to be, until this all became too much for him and he backed off for a while and has come back and this is what he finds. And he's just watching this all happen, and he doesn't know what's right and he gives up, unlike the other boy. He admires the other boy as well. Hell, it's my life. |

I love this song. Can't believe their aren't any comments yet! I think the meanings pretty obvious. It's about a man who's not taking proper care of himself. "He thought he was twice. He was moving away cause everyone thinks that it goes away with age." This part makes me think he may have a mental illness that everyone takes for a phase or no one is listening about. And he's just getting worse. "Don’t start shaking. You keep me safe. Don't ever think you're the only one when times are tough in your new age." Says to me that he's only holding on because he's realized to live for something, or someone. He wants them to hold him and he's safe and he knows it will be alright if he just keeps holding on. I like it. |

I think it's about a guy and he's got some issues with himself and he's finally getting over them and he meets a girl and they kiss. Then he loves her and she thinks she loves him and they chill and they might be on drugs or something, but he doesn't pay as much attention to her as he should. Then she meets this other man and realizes she loves HIM, not the first guy. And one night she's finally just done and leaves in the night with the other guy and the first guy is at home picturing then together, and he's obviously angry and very jealous, and she just can't get her story straight to explain to him what happened between them and he fully believes he never hurt her. I think calling it Mr. Brightside is because through it all he always thought things were great, maybe the greatest they'de been in his whole life, and so he was always optimistic and never seeing the bad.
