And I dreamt one night You were there in fours Hands held high In uniform I always thought this bit was: "And I dreamt one night, You were there in court Hands held by Men in uniform" *Shrug* |

| Grandaddy – He's Simple, He's Dumb, He's The Pilot Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
"2000 man" sounds like a guy who's convinced himself so much that the world's a bad place and that he can't survive in it, that he doesn't know how to deal with reality. So, "2000 man" delves into escapism with who knows drugs, alcohol, isolation: anything to keep him disconnected from the outside world. But the "narrator" knows that things are bad, but they're bearable so he's trying to drag "2000 man" out of his struggle and show him that life really isn't all that bad. Sadly, it looks like he struggles with coming back and seems to have been abandoned by all but the "narrator as he gets told to tell "2000 man" that there's "new plans"/alternatives for him. Nobody "understands" therefore nobody can relate to him and help him. Don't give in "2000 man"... |

| Grandaddy – Elevate Myself Lyrics | 16 years ago |

Jason's making the comment that lyrics are supposed to be raw and organic, not mass-produced, so to speak. They're supposed to come from emotions, generally strong and often painful. It's a great song about making music for the love of music, not for the love of fame or fortune. I respect the band so much for that. It's not about "getting high", jeez. |

| This is my least favourite Grandaddy song, but the angst is pretty cool... | |

| This isn't a Grandaddy song, it's already posted under Jason Lytle... | |

| Jason Lytle – This Song is the Mute Button Lyrics | 16 years ago |
|
A photo of you in a frame And no, I will not say your name Alone in the shade of a tree You waved your goodbye hand to me And I see the pretty in things But you disappeared like a dream I wish I could laugh now But I'll never see you again I wish I could laugh now But I'll never see you again I think these are the right lyrics, I just listened to it. |

I love this already, and it's still playing through the first time. The chorus part is really nice, it really evokes emotion. I'm going to see Lytle at the Manchester Academy next month - I can't wait! The heavy guitar's reminiscent of Grandaddy... *Holds back a sob* |

| Anyone pick up the Bowie-reminiscent "Starman"-esque riff at the end? | |
| Laura Marling – My Manic and I Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
Personally, I believe, as many before me, that this song is a about her ex-boyfriend or a previous love-encounter who is Manic Depressive. Hence, my "manic" and I. She tried her best to help him, and deal with his low moods and erratic behaviour from the drugs/alcohol, and also his insomnia. Insomnia alone can make someone very tetchy, believe me! Anyway, in the beginning, she's just noting the situation with acknowledgment and sympathy, but she isn't personally affected by it, whilst she's commenting on how she thinks "you're ill". However, this mood changes throughout the song, and it's almost as if his mood swings, lowness and apathy have drawn her down with him, and now she's suffering too, be it out of love and desperation for him, or paranoia and insecurities about the ups and downs, which have lead to her deeming herself as unwell, with the "I think that I'm ill". Perhaps being so close to him, and his influence on her as a partner skewed her viewpoints, and she started thinking the same as he did, and seeing the world in a negative light, even following his 'beliefs' with the "gods", although I doubt it's a literal religious reference. To back this point up, it also says that she ends up feeling disappointed with the "gods", since they can't help her or her love. I love this song, only discovered this artist a couple of days ago, now I can't stop playing. Laura <3 Beautiful song. |

| The Hoosiers – Clinging On For Life Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I can relate to this song, it reminds me of somebody. It seems that it's about a couple, who do love each other, underneath all the turmoils in their relationship. It seems to be talking of a man who cannot, or finds it difficult to love, or at least to show it. The man has realised that he's pushed his love away, and wants her back, but he doesn't know how to go about it. He's screaming out for help, but is either to frightened, or to proud to ask for it. In the end, he gives in, and accepts that nothing's going to happen, because of his apprehensive attitude towards love and relationships. Hoosiers are fantastic. (: |

| The Hoosiers – A sadness runs through him Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Here's my elongated impression: It seems to be referring to a friend who is suffering from a bad phase, or depression. "People are puppets held together with string" - Perhaps the man has just broken up with a partner, and this is showing how easily relationships can ruin, just like the ease of snapping string. "He asked me to pray to the god he doesn't believe in" - This could refer to religion in a literal sense, perhaps the man is attempting to repent something, as to rid himself of the bad 'karma' he's been getting lately. On the contrary, it could be referring to alcohol, as many depression sufferers turn to drink, and it could be at the stage where he sees alcohol as his only salvation, thus interlinking with the religion theme. "He, could not break surface tension, He looked in the wrong place for redemption" - Carrying on with the alcohol theme, it seems the protagonist has become an alcoholic, and realised, but it's become too late. He either dies from alcohol related matters such as liver trouble or suicide. He tried to find refuge and comfort in a bottle. "I tried to anaethetize, Turn back the tide that drew him." - His friend attempted to help him, to ease his pain, but he wasn't salvageable. The thundering "current" of his depression was taking over him, and he couldn't escape. Beautiful song, nonetheless. The Hoosiers are intense. (: |

| The Hoosiers – Worst Case Scenario Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| No, this song represents depression alone, not manic depression. If it were about the latter, then The Hoosiers would've written about the hypo-manic phases, whereas, they describe the lows of depression. | |
| The Hoosiers – The Feeling You Get When Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
No, no, no! These lyrics are utterly wrong! You're ruining the effect of the song! Instead of 'yard' it's 'Earth'. And instead of 'I was', it's 'I'm worth'. I think that you could relate these lyrics to say or lover, or a friend that makes you feel more positive about yourself and say, your outlook on life. Beautiful song though. I've lost count how many times I've played this album! |
