Well, it was based in that letter Virginia sent. So for me: Mrs O, is Virginia. This is a letter made by the poor, since in the original letter, Virginia says that the poor people told her there were no santa claus. So this is a thing written by the poor to Virginia showing her the other side of coin. Showing her that the world is not just about happy things and good people. The first verse the poors are trying to keep a happy face because they have nothing, it's cold, they dont have a place to live so they dont have much about being happy in xmas. The part "you really have a way with words" it's a reference for her litter. But from this part on it's where the irony begins: "the truth can't save you now the sky is falling down watch the vultures count the hours april trains may bring strange showers" This is for show to Virginia that not everyone is happy. The reference from the holocaust being the pain from the poors. Verse: "and oh mrs. o will you tell about the time they made you go all alone to the palace where they took your only clothes we all know there's no hell and no hiroshima chernobyl was a cover up the world is really all in love " Another irony thrown against Virginia comparing the humiliation the people from the holocaust suffered and how rich people dont get this kind of humiliations because of their status. "the world is really all in love " is to show to virginia that outside her own little world (that rich people fake liking each other) people are mean and fake. "we all know ther'es no hitler and no holocaust no winter and no santa clause " this end shows virginia once again that in the poor side the reality is harsher then to the rich, in an sarcastic way. "the truth cant save you now the sky is falling down eveything they ever told us shakes our faith and breaks their promise but you can stop the truth from leaking if you never stop believing...... " That part is to show to virginia that the world out there is a chaos. And that even if the world like that she can make it better by just believing things will work out right in the end. |

| For me, the song is about a friend of Amanda that is in and out of an abusive relationship. Amanda is almost dying out of anger because Delilah just cant really see how bad the guy is (because she still loves him). That relationship ends up badly, and in the end instead of Amanda saying: i told you so, she supports and give comfort to Delilah. | |

for me the songs about how blake cant really love someone, how he cant hold on to a relationship. Alaska is his own world, with no friends or any relationship at all besides things that arent people. So amanda compares this cold world of his with Alaska. When she says "The globe is getting warmer all the time It’s still cold in Alaska" Means that the people around blake can hold on to a relationship of any kind, so that's why the globe is warmer, but blake dont want to or cant do that so it still cold in Alaska since he's still lonely |
