Blake Says Lyrics

Blake says no one ever really loved him
They just faked it to get money from the government
And Blake thinks angels grow when you plant angel dust
He shakes his pretty head
But darling, trust me trust me
He’s no Valentine
Though he said he would be mine
His heart is in Alaska all the time

Blake stays underwater for the most part
He collects loose change for all tomorrow’s parties
And when Blake dates girl with tattoos of the pyramids
He breaks their hearts by saying its not permanent
But in his velvet mind
He believes with all his might
We’ll all go to Alaska when we die

Blake makes friend but only for a minute
He prefers the things he orders from the Internet
And Blake’s been having trouble with his head again
He takes pills but ever takes his medicine
Like candy in pride
He likes his shirts to shine
And when its two o’clock he feels like dying.

Blake says he is sorry he got thought to me
If its okay he’ll call right back and talk to the machine
Blake says it looks acid rain today
He takes the fish inside he’s very kind that way
But just like Caroline
He doesn’t seem to mind
The globe is getting warmer all the time

It’s still cold in Alaska
It’s still cold in Alaska
It’s still cold in Alaska

This is very much related to Stephanie Says, Caroline Says ("Just like Caroline"), and many others all having the Alaska part and a similar structure.

for me the songs about how blake cant really love someone, how he cant hold on to a relationship. Alaska is his own world, with no friends or any relationship at all besides things that arent people. So amanda compares this cold world of his with Alaska. When she says

"The globe is getting warmer all the time

It’s still cold in Alaska"

Means that the people around blake can hold on to a relationship of any kind, so that's why the globe is warmer, but blake dont want to or cant do that so it still cold in Alaska since he's still lonely

to me it's about a foster child "Blake says no one ever really loved him They just faked it to get money from the government" who doesn't find anyone to love him and that maybe his biological family was in alaska....idk

Anyone here know the Dolls' song "Truce"? Well, I think that song is about divorce, and Blake from "Blake Says" is the child of those split parents.

Listen to the way she sings "very kind" toward the end of the song, talking about taking the fish inside...it's the exact same way she sings "very sweet, very patient, and forgiving" in "Truce".

Anyone else catch that?

I could be totally wrong, but that's what I'm getting here...

Song Meaning

OK, I'm gonna go for a more shallow reply of, well, mental illness, but I think it makes the most sense.

Blake uses Alaska, or the picture of, to escape from his own head. No matter what's happening around him, he still finds solace in Alaska ("It's still cold in Alaska", while the world around him heats up). He's socially awkward and prefers trinkets and gadgets to real people - leaving Amanda (or the singer) despite the "promise" he made to her.
