It reminds me of the best pop song the Beach Boys never wrote. It is like advice given from a father to their son. The lyrics are wise, fun, and not overly complicated. My favorite line is "If wishes were trees, The trees would be falling, Listen to reason, Season is calling!" To me it is about having fun. Don't over think things. Whichever season it is, it is to be cherished. You know where your feet are. They are underneath you. And you know where your head is and what it is for. Be smart. Now go out there and explore. Learn. Have fun. Even though it is silly it is full of helpful, timeless advice. |

I don't think Michael Stipe meant to mislead. I think he just liked the way "Radio Free Europe" sounded. It sounds neat. So when you put hard to understand lyrics with a neat title like that, they give the listener new ideas. I really believe Michael Stipe knows what his lyrics mean. I take that back. I don't think Michael Stipe completely understands his lyrics. Like a doodle that you take in several different directions throughout the course of the drawing, he never fully realizes what his lyrics say. I've always considered this kind of a strength more than a weakness though. Because it opens his songs up to individual interpretations. He could probably even look back on a song and come up with new interpretations for them. But I certainly don't think his intent is to mislead.

"I think that Stipe's lyrics are in general, quite complex, deep and personal." I agree. That is what I like about them. |

I've never noticed that. But I have noticed how when he performs he hits his arm up and down. |

I like the verse, "I know that I am just a grain of sand, Meeting water at the land, We could build our castles here, and sweep them all away." It seems to be about the physical nature of energy and matter contrasted between the things we humans find on earth like playing on the beach and building sandcastles. We are, in the smaller picture just humans with one life to live, but in the grander picture we are made up of the same things physically as sand and water are. So we are on the beach building the castle, philosophically we are just one grain of sand in a large dessert, and physically we are the sand we build the sandcastle out of, and the water that washes it away. |

Cowboy Dan sounds like a mean drunk to me, no more no less. And if you listen to the second time he sings "Can't get that..." it definitely sounds like he says "egg". Which makes sense because I was never able to fry an egg and flip it over right until I put it on low heat. Maybe Issac had the same problem and incorporated it into one of his songs. |

To Ashley765 I think "this gun's for hire" basically means he is a bullet and he is waiting to have his trigger sparked so he can shoot off and be filled with fire again. Because I think the trigger of a gun makes a spark when it hits the bullet to shoot the gun off. |
