| Blonde Redhead – My Impure Hair Lyrics | 12 years ago |
| People always find a way to bring religion into things that are clearly not about religion. Whatever floats your boat, dude. | |
| Typhoon – CPR/Claws Pt. 2 Lyrics | 12 years ago |

I set up the recording rig for Paul Laxer to track Typhoon at Pendarvis Farm earlier this year and got to talk to Kyle a little bit. He's a great guy -- getting to know him seems to make his lyrics dig even deeper knowing his life. I didn't ask him about this song or its meaning, but to me it seems to be about a widower of someone who had a drug addiction or another disease-related death. It plays on death in so many ways; as @milesaway said, Kyle has Lyme disease. However, I think his own thoughts bleed into the narration of a wife and her husband instead of intentionally directing to Kyle, because he is still alive. "Your help is on the way/ Just sing yourself a song and wait" foreshadows a character looming over the death in the second verse. "Then the suffering, one way or the other/ It will go away" either through getting a fix to stop withdrawal suffering or an overdose (again, my interpretation). "He lay down on the kitchen floor/ You struggled but you could not afford/ The weight." It sounds like the main character's lover passes out, she tries to carry him somewhere but can't lift him, or a metaphor for letting go. Then "Your help is on the way" could mean that the ambulance is coming and she just has to comfort herself in the meantime. The lines before those seem to invoke a memory as she is living day-to-day: "It's quiet and you wake/ You make the bed for two you always make/ Though half empty from some days before." It seems clear someone is dead. The rest of the song is so beautiful and powerful. The themes of death and forfeit seem to recur. Just my thoughts. :) |

| Owen – Heads Will Ache Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| This is from The Seaside EP, which was released just recently. Anyone can tell you it's a modification of Everyone Feels Like You but it was officially released with the title 'Heads Will Ache'. I'm confused as to how the lyrics are already up, but I'm cool with it. | |
| Fleet Foxes – Quiet Houses Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Perhaps this song is about intimacy in abstinence? 'Lay me down' vs. 'Don't give in'? I don't know. | |
| Grandaddy – Nonphenomenal Lineage Lyrics | 17 years ago |

I thought this song had to do with dying and ascending to some sort of heaven. ('The results are back/Now it's time to pack/Your things and go') could be talking about a person's life being judged and deciding if he goes to the heaven or not. ('Seems you came up rather short/Of the average sort/Now I must inform/You've no reason left to remain here') could be about the person's death, and an angel escorting him to heaven. ('Only gifted hands/Will receive the chance/To touch down on fortune'), this could be dealing with what enjoymywaffles was talking about, but it may be about how only holy souls get access into a sort of heaven. ('And lead you to the gate/And you will go away/And never attempt to return here'), I thought that was a really specific part about the heaven's gates, although I may be wrong. The whole heaven thing is really confusing to me, because I haven't heard religious talk in most of Grandaddy's songs, or at least recognized it. And I'm agnostic, haha. |

| Zip Ties And Monday – Givin' a Kitty CPR Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| Haha this band is fucking great. Giving a kitty CPR: connecting orally with a pussy. If you don't get it, cunnilingus. | |
| Dr. Dog – Worst Trip Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The '...' confused part is 'Well, I thought you'd kind of like it', at least according to the official lyric book included with the CD. | |
