Ingrid Michaelson – Giving Up Lyrics 16 years ago
Agree with all the comments posted that this song is about throwing away all the what ifs and having faith that she's found the right one for her. Just one point I want to expand on - when she says:

What if I fall further than you
What if you dream of somebody new

There's a beautiful vulnerability here. I think one of the scariest thoughts for anyone in a relationship is being more in love with the person you're with than they are with you. It's a natural fear, because as much as you can communicate and describe feelings it's impossible to actually know. You have to have faith in your partner that they mean what they say and do. This song is a lot about faith in yourself (that you're choosing the right person)and in your partner (that they are doing the same).

Absolutely beautiful.

Rachael Yamagata – Letter Read Lyrics 17 years ago
I love the lines

"And I have put so much into a life
I made too much about you now to lie"

The first thing you want to do when you break up with someone or find someone else doesn't like you as much as you liked them is to deny your past feelings for them. However, this relationship and this person affected her so much that she can't even attempt to do this. It shows such honest vulnerability - it's beautiful.

Sara Bareilles – My Love Lyrics 17 years ago
Beautiful, beautiful song. It seems that this is the serious and sincere version of "Fairytale". She really is waiting for Prince Charming, just not in such a sad, typical way.

James Morrison – save yourself Lyrics 17 years ago
This is an amazing song. The lyrics somewhat conflict with the tone and melody of the song, giving it a few possible meanings.

It's obviously about a relationship from the perspective of someone who truly cares about the other person and wants the best for them. The lyrics suggest it's a long-term relationship where they care about one another, but for whatever reason, they know it won't work in the end. The first stanza supports this idea

"I'm trying to change
To make the best for us
But I'm just the same
Same as I ever was"

However, the upbeat and playful tone also suggests a newer relationship. Where there is a true interest, but not as much involved. Like many new relationships that are going well, you almost expect to make the same mistakes and have the same heartbreak as previous relationships. While there is a desire to continue the relationship, there is also a desire to leave it in the perfect state it is in the early stages, as not to have the same chance at heartbreak as previous relationships.

Because of these dual possible meanings this is a wonderful and widely applicable song. Further, the music and passion in his voice are fantastic.

Josh Ritter – To the Dogs or Whoever Lyrics 18 years ago
Going along with the theme of this album, I feel that it is about a girl he used to be with. He was in love with her for what she did. She was brave, beautiful, mysterious, amazing. But that doesn't mean it worked out. She can do everything else to extremes, but she can't love him in the same way. "Can you love me like the cross loves the nape of the neck" to me symbolizes that she should be able to love him extremely (obviously this using a sarcastic analogy) but can't.

This is such a powerful song & I think the most mysterious and one of the best on the album.

Cold War Kids – Tell Me in the Morning Lyrics 18 years ago
This song is clearly a break up song. "Tell me in the morning" comes from the common advice "sleep on it" or "it will all be better in the morning". She brings up problems in their relationship that they both recognize (And I'll tell you one more thing; I confess to self deception; Broke the lock and pried it open; Then pretend to be stolen; I am my own thief in the night; Struggled for many years, just to get here; To learn humility, and be my own teacher
I guess it backfired, 'cause my motive was just to take and never care 'bout what I give) but they just fight & yell at each other and end of breaking up. He still cares about her though and wishes that she could have waited to talk about things in the morning, operating under the belief that things would have turned out differently.

I think it's the normal signs of regret and the desire to change the outcome of prior events that one feels after a break up.
