Jack Johnson – Only The Ocean Lyrics 13 years ago
I really wish there was more comments on this song. It was one that grabbed me. To me it seem to be about a suicide of someone that realy didn't feel or live "to go to the water for a reason" and "when this world is too much it will be only the ocean and me" followed up by "I'm finally free."

I maybe totally off base but wanted to but more out there than the I love this song.

How many times do we find ourselves invovled with some (friendships, relationships, etc) where we don't feel like we matter yet we are pulled in to their lives. I've noticed I'm being pulled to the water (I'm an Aquarius) and Mr. Johnson's songs of the ocean feel like home.

The Traveling Wilburys – Congratulations Lyrics 13 years ago
This song is pretty obvious. Discovered he loved someone that he had taken for granted.

I really like the sound and flow of this song. It just grabs me.

Michael Bublé – Crazy Love Lyrics 14 years ago
When I listen to this song it gives me that same relaxing feeling that I get with Sitting on the Dock of the Bay by Otis Redding. Very few songs can give me that wonderful feeling. Where it brings in calm feelings and that everything is going to be okay.

I totally agree with you ZooaRoo. Great drinking song! And you don't have to sound good to sing along.

The Proclaimers – My Old Friend The Blues Lyrics 14 years ago
Pretty self explainatory. Such a sad song, yet beautifully done. People will fail us. I like the fact that the blues are more of a friend than a demon that so many want to make this be.

The Proclaimers – Then I Met You Lyrics 14 years ago
This is a great song. I agree with ZooaRoo. I'm a singleton and I'm happy. So many people think that I should hurry up and get married. However, why should I settle for someone that doesn't make me feel like this song?

Thought that I was finished
Thought that I was complete
Thought that I was whole instead of being half of something

In Jerry Maguire there was a big deal made about you complete me. I don't feel like I'm 1/2 a person. I like the way this was worded. I felt that I was whole but with you I realize I'm 1/2 of something even better than my whole was.

Joni Mitchell – Tin Angel Lyrics 14 years ago
First time I had heard this song. Listening to it and reading the lyrics it seems to be about settleing. She's thowing away all the momentos she's saved for years from other loves, and this is the first time she's throwing them out. She is also taking a chance and seeing what will happen - this is not necessairly a love she believes will last. Almost seems like she has found someone that she is able to fix - and maybe the previous loves she feels fixed her.

Adele – Chasing Pavements Lyrics 15 years ago
I identify this as falling in love with a friend. If you take the chance and he doesn't feel the same then you probably just destroyed the friendship. You don't want to do that because you want him in your life. Do you know your place...just friends or could this be more? I don't see it as an end but a possible beginning.

Joni Mitchell – Both Sides Now Lyrics 15 years ago
I was not a Joni Mitchell fan until I heard the "mature" version of this song in Love Actually. We have yet to understand weather. How many times are we ready for a storm that never happens? Then other times a huge storm was downplayed in predictions? I know her clouds are happier clouds, but do we really understand clouds? Then look at love and life. Does anyone know the meaning of life? No, these are things none of us understand.

I like how the 1970 version was bouncy and cheery and then the 2000 version seems so wise, yet not broken.

Joni Mitchell is brilliant!

Natalie Imbruglia – Torn Lyrics 15 years ago
"I thought I saw a man brought to life,
He was warm, he came around like he was dignified,
He showed me what it was to cry,"

Met a guy she thought would be a good guy. However, I have heard that the one that loves you will never make you cry. This is general because this happens to women several times in our life, right?

"Well, you couldn't be that man I adored.
You don't seem to know, seem to care, what your heart is for,
But I don't know him anymore,"

Now getting into more specifics about this particular man. The not knowing or not caring what you heart is for is saying you are a player. You played me, and I really don't know who you are. Are you the man I fell in love with or the player you are now showing me?

"There's nothing where he used to lie,
My conversation has run dry,
That's what's goin' on. Nothing's fine I'm torn..."

Now that she is single again there isn't anything to talk about. People don't want to hear you whine, and you aren't enjoying single life yet. She's still torn between the dignified man and the player - which one is he really? Deep down you know the dignified guy exists and will come back to you.

"I'm all out of faith,
This is how I feel,
I'm cold and I am shamed,
Lying naked on the floor,
Illusion never changed,
Into something real,
I'm wide awake and I can see the perfect sky is torn,"

No long trust love. You feel vulnerable. You thought the love was real but it was a one way street or an illusion by the player. Now that you don't believe in love (who does after a break up?) and you don't know if you ever will again. Sometimes when relationships end the person may never get back up on the dating horse, or it may take a long time. But in that time love doesn't exist - or not for you.

"You're a little late, I'm already torn"

My heart has been torn out and I don't have anything to give to the next so-called decent guy that is/may come around at this time.

"So I guess the fortune teller's right,
I should have seen just what was there and not some holy light,"

We have a tendency to idolize those we love. She was warned that he wasn't something that was great, but she didn't see that because she believed in him.

"But you crawelled beneath my veins and now,
I don't care, I have no luck, I don't miss it all that much,
There's just so many things,
That I can't touch I'm torn."

This guy may have been the one that totally destroyed her (the write maybe not Natalie's). When you go though so many bad relationships and you finally meet a guy that you think this time it is going to be different and he is just as bad if not worse than the other guys.

I don't think it is about rape or losing your virginity, but your ability to feel that you can love someone with the love they deserve. When you love is thrown back at you in your face what are you going to do. Eventually you are torn or heartbroken. The meaning of torn changes over time. Also it is British and they often have different meanings for words.

Elton John – The One Lyrics 16 years ago
"There are caravans we follow
Drunken nights in dark hotels
When chances breathe between the silence
Where sex and love no longer gel"

To me this means how many times do we not go after someone because our friends don't encourage us (they have the wrong look, want you to go after someone else) or we mess a good thing up.

Usually "The One" isn't a once in a lifetime chance, but may reappear several "silent" moments that you never realize.

I think this portion of the song is maybe not taking the chance on someone or messing it up - but if that person is "The One" there should be a second chance.

Elton John – Blessed Lyrics 16 years ago
I had heard Elton in an interview. When he got the lyrics from Bernie Taupin he was very happy for him. Bernie had gotten remarried and came up with this song. Bernie was an older guy (assuming in his 60s) and finally ready to have a child.
