@[Listen2Reason:10209] THANK YOU everyone keeps ignoring the scarlet letter. It's a key part of the song. The situation may be arguable but it seems to be an unapologetic cheating song. Either the girl with the scarlet letter (who I believe might also be the singer) or the person that she's singing to, or possibly both, want to never mind any other relationship or situation they may be in and just 'dance.' Until the girl with the scarlet letter (justifiably) feels like she's just on the sidelines , pines for more attention, and overthinks everything- "I need a sign or a signal I've overthought everything I can think of into symbol" -even though from the start he has behaved towards her with confidence of their relationship and gives her affection. Perhaps she feels this way because he only behaves this way when they are together. She's left wondering because their dances are few and far between. "When you gonna let me know If you give a damn about me 'Cause you got my hands tied In my defense I always fall for confidence And your compliments look good on me" He has complete control over her. I saw them live recently, and he said that he wrote this song when he found out he had vocal chord nodules and might not be able to sing properly again. But all ended well for him, luckily. (hit home with me getting half, possibly all of my thyroid removed. Many risks, including damage of vocal chords. Got to talk to him about it after his show a bit, very nice guy and seems to love talking to his fans.) So with the information that he gave the audience and i'm sure anyone who has had a life-changing medical condition might agree with me, I think this song is about how it seems like it would be easy to just pick up and go, and forget about these problems. This song isn't about a stupid relationship that you'll be over within a year, it's about not EVER being able to just put something down, but having to live with it your whole life. "And the man in the moon never makes his replies understood" I'm sure if anyone has EVER been to a doctor, this line is a fairly obvious one, especially knowing this song has to do with a health problem. "For a moment I was warm and the world made sense, for a moment in this storm made of consequence." When super shit things happened, I'd know why. If I gained weight, it's because I ate. If someone was mean to me, its because I did something to piss them off. If you get fired, you did something that rubbed your boss the wrong way. If you get audited, it's because you didn't pay your taxes. Goes on forever. But what does someone to do deserve an unpredictable and possibly never-ending medical problem that will change their whole lives for the worse? Running out of time faster than the rest to take advantage of the things we have before these out-of-nowhere problems that your body has found takes over. |

this is an amazing song and i love the point of view of it but i was looking into it, and from what i understand, mary was already holding jesus before she met joseph. From Matthew 1: "Now the birth of Jesus Christ was on this wise: When as his mother Mary was espoused to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Ghost." am i understanding that right? |
