| I have to comment this one. The first time I heard it was almost blushed from shame, hearing it again reduced me to tears. I think more people should hear it, out of all the Midnattsol songs, it sounds nothing like modern pop/rock. It is also the most depressing song I've ever heard and has helped me grasp certain persons I know in a new way. | |

IMO it's about growing old and becoming jaded against utopian notions of better world. "Take my hand/ Hurray for the winters come..." There is really nothing to celebrate other than the arrival of winter. "Cease my plans/ Excuse me from the scenes of old" I nonetheless continue in the things I've set out to do. "I can meet you there?, I just don't care/ On this New Years Day/ With no celebration from me" People are waiting for me at this party, I go because I don't want them to worry or feel bad. But there is nothing worth celebrating. "Understand/ There's comfort with the wealth of gold" There use to be some bigger value, now I seek only pleasure. "Increase demands/ Release me from the scenes of old" Though this attitude kinda sickens me. I kinda feel the same way... Anyhow, happy new year 2008. |

First of all I love this song, it is a gripping commentary on the whole rationality project of western civilization - we learn from history, our place in the "master plan". Never to rebel against the institution but only hum about injustices as rape, drugs and crime. So the skies become full of "angel holograms", meaningless phrases and hollow lies about how great things really are. These good things, like freedom of speech or religion, are infact nothing to do with our day to day lifes. It's really quite an angry and discontent lyric. |
