I think the previous comment hit the nail on the head. Adding to that I think it's about a guy who loves a girl and has always been there for her despite the shitty guys she dates, and all of the bad decisions she makes. She always comes to him with her problems "And you call me in the morning with your troubles. "Takin' it downtown every night" and he gives her advice which she ignores until it's to late. Then when things fall apart she recognizes he was right "and you know I'm right" "Any afterthought rose to recognition". Then she goes on to repeat the process, choosing bad relationships over a healthy one with him. He's gotten to the point where he's content with his role in the relationship because he knows she won't change, and see's she's too damaged if she ever did. Even though he knows they'll never be together he still loves her, and will continue to help her even though it's become a "bad habit" because he realizes that his only problem is that he's "doomed to repeat" helping a somewhat hopeless cause. He realizes that his biggest problem is that he's helping a lost cause, but is willing to sacrifice his help because her problems outweigh his. Overall it's about him acknowledging the situation he's in, knowing it's not gonna change, and being selfless enough to stick around to help because he loves her, even though she'll never reciprocate. I may just be seeing what I want to see in this song because it illustrates to a T a relationship I have with a friend, but nonetheless it's a great song with great lyrics. |

| Motion City Soundtrack – Monsters Invisible Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| Yeah definately "inspired by" not inherently about invisible monsters. Justin (as of lately)seems to enjoy taking pop culture media names (books, movies) and writing songs that have little to do with them. I think it's just kinda like a shoutout he gives by using a title of something he likes. | |
| Motion City Soundtrack – Disappear Lyrics | 15 years ago |
| This song reminds me so much of the Chuck Palahnuik book Invisible Monsters. It's pretty straightforword that the song probably has no relation to that book but I really enjoy the parallels between the two | |

After some searching on the internet I reached a discovery. About 50% of the references in this song refer to the 1990's TV show Twin Peaks (which justin mentions in make out kids "I'm fond of Twin Peaks afternoons" Wrapped in plastic- How Laura Palmers body is found in the pilot of twin peaks/ also the name of David Lynch's Fanzine created for the show. Major- Major Briggs a charector in the show. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_Peaks www.imdb.com/title/tt0098936/ http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Twin_Peaks:_Fire_Walk_with_Me There are many other vague possible tie in's. Someone who has seen the episodes might have more insight to some similarities |

WEll I think the first order of business on the path to finding the meaning of this song is to locate what each pop culture reference is. So here's a quick list Cloak and Daggers-80's spy movie Miami Vice- TV show Seabury Quinn- Famous Pulp Fiction novelist. (Pulp Magazines named after their paper quality. Popular around the 50's) The Chorus(s) are a description of something i'm not quite sure on yet (life, another person, himself, etc) Which basically compares the inexpensive quality of things such as pulp magazines and slasher movie plots to lets just say in this case life. They lack beauty and any content of worth externally, yet "the killings are gorgeous" stating they hold a quality that changes your whole perception of them. Silly Rabbit- Trix rabbit Good Grief- Charlie Brown (And one I forgot from before) QT- old slang for quiet (ex). "We gotta keep that on the QT" |

| Say Anything – We Will Erase All Life on Earth But Us Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| First of all a lot of the lyrics aren't right, but it doesn't look like anyones going to be changing them so... first of all i'm wondering about the line "Drown them out with song, and friend and drink, ingest this (this is where i don't even know for sure the lyric i think it's sideritis) Sideritis? That would make sense since sideritis is a herb made into a tea to cure the common cold. As for the meaning of the song I believe it is is max calling out saying how because of the urban drone life he's lived and wasted thus far he wants to break free from the liars and robots. He wants to erase all those who feed this cycle of useless bullshit and only leave him and "us" us being his followers and those who share this mindset and want more to life then to be ants carrying out aimless tasks for a aimless purpose. | |
| The Shins – Caring Is Creepy Lyrics | 17 years ago |

either that or it's somebody who wishes they could be that apathetic about the whole thing but actually is unable to get over a relationship even though they want to. thus feeling creepy for caring so much one or the other |

| The Shins – Caring Is Creepy Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
ultimately i think this song is about somebody who has just gotten out of a relationship most likely being dumped and he's so devestated he pretty much slips into apathy. The first line talks about he's going to go think about what just happened before he decides to actually accept it. From there on he pretty much starts not caring and somewhat becomes a cynic towards relationships altogether |

| Death Cab for Cutie – I Will Follow You Into the Dark Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| i think that in a very vague interpretation he is saying even if they can't be together in heaven or hell their love is so strong they will still be together "in the dark" | |
| Butthole Surfers – Pepper Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| I think this song is about two different things. first off i do agree with the whole drug theory but at the same time I think it is about how people live there lives. it talks about these people taking chances and living life on the edge. but then it also gives examples of dying from a virus. which may be beyond your control. so it says regardless of how you live your life anything can happen. addicts can live to be 90 and healthy people can die at 25. with the drug reference I think it refers to the risk of drugs such as heroin, becaussde drinking from a fountain that is like an avalanche would be nearly suicidal. | |
| System of a Down – Suite-Pee Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| to add to that serj says he has studied numerous religions and respects them all but to add to my last comment he believes in something prior to civilization. Also the reason it sometimes sounds as if he has some sort of hatred towards a religion is not because he hates the religion he just hates the violence that comes out of some religions both in the past and the present. | |
| System of a Down – Suite-Pee Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| This song i don't think is neccessarily anti-church. serj has said he chooses not to follow organized religion not because he has anything against it but because he doesn't believe in it. He says his religion is the same thing as the trees outside. whatever moves them moves him. What he is saying is that what he has decided on as a religion is something that focus's on more then just the time humans have been on the earth. therefore i think he is talking about mother earth | |
| System of a Down – DDevil Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think that what the meaning could be a mix of a few things i've seen here so far. I think it does have something to do with plagiarism but i'm not sure what. But i also think it is how the world has become so accustom to bad things (thus "the devil is so lovely) it's like we don't even notice he's there. I think the refrigerators part could have something to do with the possibility of cloning and how by doing that we could be sealing our fate. I also think "Stupid people do stupid things, Smart people outsmart each other, Then themselves, then themselves" is showing different ways people meet their downfall due to there actions. Stupid people do dumb stuff. smart people go after each other. and then they get to big for their own heads |

| System of a Down – Mr. Jack Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| . I think it is about a man who is under the influence of something either drugs or alcohol. the mouthwash in your eyes line I think refers to how he is trying to cover up the fact that he is intoxicated. a police car appears behind him and instead of pulling over he runs from the "protectors" or police at his back. he's doing all this because he is intoxicated the intoxication is refered to as the mouthwash in his eyes, what causes his surprise, and what causes his demise. after a long chase he finnally pulls over and is surrounded by cops who yell for him to put his hands up and get out of the car. but jack since he is drunk/high decides to lash out most likely by pulling a gun and the cops open fire. | |
| Apocalyptica – I'm NOT Jesus Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I agree with blackwolfj31. heres why Drift among the faithful- while other preists are being faithful to there vocations and god the preist in question is using his power for his own pleasure I thought you were a good man I thought you talked to god You hippocratic, messianic, child abusing, turn satanic - this is saying that instead of using his ethics (hippocratic) and following what he stands for (messianic/messiah) he's become the opposite of what he's supposed to stand for (Child abusing, turned satanic) I'm not jesus - jesus wasn't there (actually supposed to be fair) means jesus forgave people who didn't deserve it, therefore not being "fair". this just mean his victim isn't going to forgive him for what he's done |
