I'm not saying I don't believe in God or people shouldn't or anything like that. I loved Earthsuit. What I'm saying is that if you ask Paul Meany if Mute Math is a Christian band, he will say no. |

Behhh, Mute Math literally sued their record label because they are not a Christian band. This song is open to interpretation, really. It could be anyone, whether that's a lover, a friend, or God that the character in the song is depending on. This song is about depending on someone during times of, well, chaos, and the identity of that someone is left for the listener to decide. |

Earthsuit tried to bring a Christian message to the world, but I think Mute Math is just generally philosophical with their lyrics. "Noticed" and "You are Mine" are just plain flat out love songs. |

All of the above, yeah, you're right. This is about how everyone may put up a front that they're strong (everyone's invincible but it's just pretend) but in the end everyone feels down, everyone breaks the same way. |

| Mute Math – Stall Out Lyrics

I think this song can mean a lot of different things to everyone. But this is what I think it means for Paul when he wrote it.
I think the intro/verse of the song is about Paul's struggle to make it as a musician. Racing on a fault line. Bracing for a landslide. To me, it sounds like a symbol of Paul scraping by in Earthsuit, and hoping that Mute Math will finally give Meany the chance for people to hear his message. Then when it talks about the race going underwater, I think that's talking about Hurricane Katrina. Mute Math is based out of New Orleans, and they had to relocate after Katrina destroyed the city, and that likely took away the band's hope.
But then it gets to the "we're still far from over part". I think this is Paul's declaration that he's never going to give up. He's been struggling to get by, but he's not going to stall out. He's going to keep going.
To me, and I think to Mute Math, this song is about not giving up on yourself. |
