| Catatonia – Strange Glue Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Favourite lyrics, possibly ever. "It was strange glue that held us together While we both came apart at the seams" The glue could be a strange bond, the romance of self destruction in that they know they are bad for each other but stay connected anyway. Could also be sexual, with 'coming apart at the seams' orgasm and the strange glue bodily fluids (though perhaps less likely). "She said your place or mine While we've still got the time So I played along with her schemes" Not sure, maybe the suggesting time is running out and death is near? Playing along with schemes suggesting acceptance of personal weakness, knowing you are broken and should fix yourself but letting it all drift away instead. "But I don't have the right to be with you tonight So please leave me alone with no saviour in sight I will sleep safe and sound with nobody around me" Favourite lines, perhaps a reference to depression in the self-loathing, 'I don't deserve to be happy' type statements. The acceptance, and perhaps even longing for (self?) destruction. Then the oxymoron of sleeping alone and vulnerable, since this characters 'demons' seem to come from within herself - though the line could also be a reference to the fact that everyone hurts you in the end. As to any personal events which inspired this, I can only speculate. "When faced with my demons I clothe them and feed them And I smile, yes I smile As they're taking me over" About feeding her own demons, that spiral when you know you're on the way down but do nothing to stop it. She encourages her own negative thought patterns, creating the very demons which plague her. The 'yes I smile' is recognising that she has lost the basic human instinct to survive, which may shock many people. "And if I cannot sleep for the secrets I keep It's the price I'm willing to meet The end of the night never comes too quickly for me" Not giving something up, even though you know it will destroy you? And the final line about lying awake alone at night, being terrified and having no one to turn to. Day/night as a cycle, with everything going downhill from dawn onwards. Each dawn is both a victory, and a small death in the knowledge that night is once again drawing ever closer. |

| Hole – Reasons to Be Beautiful Lyrics | 16 years ago |
Here you could read 'beautiful' as socially accepted in Hollywood, an image for the public to see, how fickle this all is in regards to her identity, and how that ultimately beauty can be bought, along with her soul written out in all her lyrics. In other words, give me a reason to get up in the morning and put my make-up on. |

| Catatonia – Mulder & Scully Lyrics | 16 years ago |
"And what does someone do without love? And what does someone do with love?" Two questions which are impossible to answer, almost 'metalove' in that they question the very nature of love and its uses. Could also be seen as a variant of the theme in the statement "can't live with them, can't live without them". A reference to the hopeless situation you are placed in once falling in love - you either stay in love, or fall out of it, both of which have astronomical consequences. |

| Lady GaGa – Alejandro Lyrics | 16 years ago |
She cracks me up. That accent in those first few lines... She is living in her own little world, that is real by definition or proxy. Like no artist ever before, she seems to have an identity strong enough to conquer America and therefore the world, but built the multiple reincarnations of herself with seemingly no fixed standing point. It's about love, unrequited, letting someone go, passion, Latino matched with her futuristic pop sound, love. |

| Lady GaGa – Monster Lyrics | 16 years ago |
THIS SONG IS GOING TO BE HUGE. She is like a many faceted diamond - only the diamond is made of latex and crystals of crack cocaine. 'Monster' can mean anything you wish. It can symbolise the multi-layered fears involved with sex, love, drugs, fame; all they can take from you and all they can give in return. It can show an unconventional attitude towards the necessity of convention in relationships; the relationship between the physical and spiritual as nothing more than a habit, with the heart as a vulnerable non-entity holding her down. She is going to release it, shoot a kickass video for it that not even Las Vegas is ready for, and the phrase 'ate my heart' shall enter the English language. |

| The Libertines – The Man Who Would Be King Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"I watched friendship slip away But it wasn't s'posed to be that way" could that be about how their friendship fell apart? and like everyone else said, it works with 'tell the king' from 'up the bracket' and perhaps 'king' could be a symbol for (i cant explain this very well but here goes..) the person who is dominant, or who everyone looks up to and 'obeys'? because they were always fighting over who sang what and was more popular, shown in lyrics (i can only think of this one off the top of my head) 'ive read the reviews, they all prefer you', by pete, but i am probably wrong. |

| Dirty Pretty Things – Gin And Milk Lyrics | 18 years ago |
favourite, i think. "I put gin in my milk To kill all the germs" i think that could be about dependancy on alcohol, and the 'germs' are depressing parts of life, and how the alcohol has corrupted and taken over even the innocent parts of life, such as the milk. also, the 'to kill all the germs' part could be an obvious excuse/denial/justification/whatever the word is of the alcoholism. also that he feels surrounded by 'germs', or negativity. |

| Courtney Love – Almost Golden Lyrics | 18 years ago |
my favourite :) and yeah i think some of the lyrics are wrong isnt this "My dress is the prettiest" "murderess is the prettiest"? i think thats such a powerful lyric, so like bitter i cant explain like saying she's got away with doing what they think she did, but she knows she didnt actually do it, and is saying they are all surprised she is the 'best', or prettiest, although they think its like a cover for how 'evil' she is inside, and it is just so incredibly, for want of a better word, emotional! or, it could be nothing to do with that. |
| Babyshambles – Loyalty Song Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| The Smiths – Frankly, Mr. Shankly Lyrics | 18 years ago |
i love this song :) everyone else has pretty much explained it, but, "Frankly, Mr Shankly, I'm a sickening wreck I've got the 21st century breathing down my neck I must move fast, you understand me I want to go down in celluloid history Mr Shankly" perhaps that could be about how he feels his life is going too fast, and there isnt enough time for him to write enough songs etc to become famous and be remembered. |
| The Libertines – Tell The King Lyrics | 18 years ago |
my favourite libertines song :) "Oh my words in your mouth are mumbled all about You're like a journalist How you can cut and paste and twist You're awful" i think this is probably about how someone is twisting his words to make it sound like he means something else, maybe carl? i would say it was an actual journalist if they had not compared the person to a journalist, and as someone has pointed out this song could have been written before they were famous and in the papers much. "Tell it to your king Tell him everything you know" this to me has the air of someone telling tales, with perhaps the king being someone everyone 'sucks up' to, and how they are too important in the person who is telling tales' life. "And see snakes in eyes And danger signs" this is about paranoia, i think, though i have seen it with "snakes AND eyes and danger signs". if it was snakes IN eyes, that could mean seeing danger/evil in people, and even if it's 'and', it could still mean that the eyes he sees everywhere makes it seem like people are watching him. or perhaps this is how he feels when he is "levered off my face" - how drugs/alcohol affect his world. OR, i could just be completely wrong :) |

| Kelly Rowland – Stole Lyrics | 18 years ago |
"about science and smart stuff" lofl. yeah, real deep xD and does america ever stop to think that if they stopped selling guns to random people, maniacs wouldnt be able to get hold of guns and go round shooting people so easily? in england, no one can get hold of a gun without strict regulations, and surprise surprise, there are no school shootings. sad thing is, its happened in america a load of times, and they -still- havent learnt. |

| Babyshambles – Pipedown Lyrics | 18 years ago |

| The Libertines – Music When The Lights Go Out Lyrics | 18 years ago |
we saw this last night at bournemouth, he played it accoustically, i think because the crowd were yelling it out, and it was amazing. !! i think it could either be about not feeling the same way anymore, with the music as a metaphor for that, or quite literally meaning he finds it harder to either write or concentrate on music, and the drugs or something has taken over. but, i may be completely wrong :) |
