| Baths – Iniuria Palace Lyrics | 14 years ago |

i'm here, a flourishing and jovial male i'm all spirits and tall tales my arms would be your sentimental bed if it ends as well as it is in my head brilliant. this is a song about shooting the shit and the strife of the sigles/see n be seen scene. a bit melodramatic but i feel like he hits the nail on the head in this one. i have seen the exact situation described in the song and more often been in the position of the subject |

so there is a version of this song on Fingerlings 4 that has the same instrumental basis of the song but Bird adds part of 'trimmed and burning' in the middle as a vocal melody but there are a few new lyrics added to the beginning before the "keep your light trimmed and burning" hook comes in. anyone know what hes saying here//anyone at least know what im talking about? |

is anyone else seeing the sovay/souverian similarities here? i can already see a similar discussion unfolding on this page that seems to be following the whole "what does the word sovay come from" discussion on the sovay page sovay=sauvee=sophie=etc, etc.... he could have just carried it out more and created souverian i hope someone is following me here, afterall i am pretty deHIGHdrated |

lol if i were on this board 5 years ago i would have said stop bitching about dashboard and what emokid5 said...this isnt here to be beligerant about music rather to appreciate and discuss the meanings of songs [hence songmeanings.net lol] and other topics of relevance pertaining to the said musician/specific song lol also the "cough dashboard cough" comment i think was more aimed at what emokid5 had said in his previous comment when he said something along the lines of "pubescent whining" and i think the next person said that like pointing up to that statement from emokid lol i guess though when ppl read the words "dashboard confessional" on an AF message board some hard feelings can erupt with in [which i completely understand] okay this comment has nothing to do with the song yet so i would also like to say that owen is encredible along with owels, cappn jazz, etc,etc and mikes version of this song he does as owen is really good too if you guys havent heard it i cannot suggest checking out his version of this as well also someone said they listen to this everyday when they get up....why would you start off your day so depressing? lol just saying, as pretty sounding as this is, it kinda makes me wanna die when i hear it as it calls so many bad memories of messy ending relationships and the like lol and yes the timing and guitars are freaking sweet....although i really think they didnt want anyone to ever be able to play this song because the tunings are so odd..... [Guitar 1: FACGCE Guitar 2: DAEAC#D capo 3rd] but yeah...def. my favourite American Football song sorry for being so verbose with my post.... |

| Andrew Bird – Sick of Elephants Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
if this is indeed a musical hit on the republican party, which could definately could be the case, it would be quite a bold move on bird's part considering his usual position of nutrality. everything else we have from AB has always led me to believe that he trys to stay out of petty conflicts about issues that are created by the "red state/blue state" situation maybe its just me but i always felt like bird tries to stay more enlightened by focusing on "the bigger picture" or coexisting and just keeping humanity progressive rather than getting caught up in trifling tiffs that are ultimately non-climactic or otherwise unimportant either way brilliant song =] |

holy shit where can i find this interview my friends and i had speculated several similar things about this album, more about the possibility that this album could be a sequel to Who Will Survive and Coming Home could be about that man returning to the town after nearly escaping with his life. we had lots of ideas but the prequel one is by far exceeding in bad assory |

| instead of a specific girl or instance with the whole female murderess thing it could also be about the banality of evil. to quote Godzuki, "looks innocent but actually a killer" | |

all of these songs are good on the new album but i always hold mbd a bit higher than any other music. after 3 or 4 listens this album is just...on par with what they are capable with. nothing amazing for them. good stuff, i just expect so much more from them. also, i wonder how much vagrant had to do with the influence on this album. additionally, anyone notice how the guitar at the end of the song has a similar melody to the piano in Devil In Mexico off of Who will survive. follows the vocals i guess a bit better. hopefully i this will grow on me like In Bocca Al Lupo did. at first i was kinda iffy about it but after a few weeks i loved it almost as much as their first to full length records. |

| Andrew Bird – Sovay Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
HERE IS WHAT THE WORD SOVAY COMES FROM: mind you,i did not read in depth what everyone has said about what the word sovay means because i am short on time at this certain instance, but someone mentioned an english folktale and i have found more on that. Sovay was this story about this woman who's husband was out traveling. She dresses up as a highwayman and robs him and tells him to give up all of his things and he does and then she sees his wedding band on his finger and demands to have that as well. he denies her the ring and then she pulls out a gun and points it at him and says give me the ring or i will shoot you dead he, once again, denies his attacker (who he does not realize is actually his wife, mind you) the ring and says basically "no i am going to keep the ring you can have everything else but i love my wife. at least spare me this" it is at this point where she unveils herself and is pretty much just like "I love you" and so her doing this was, in essence, the woman testing the man's love for her and he came through and proved to her through this situation that the love they shared was true. basically Sovay is about the ultimate test of love relative to the English folk tale. |

| Andrew Bird – Action/Adventure Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i think that cooltobehip got it pretty good but may have been a bit too specific in some parts. to me this song could be another hit at the singles scene ("the adult life style community, the c n b scene" such as that in Fake Palindromes basically it is this situation: a girl who is being a tease and picks up lots of guys ("you pick me up in duty free" and also "where all your little boys, your action toys are duty free") he realizes this and is trying to resolve this issue by either telling her this or getting her to see how he is unhappy with her indesisiveness or something as for the pen part at the end the more i think about it the more i see cooltobehip's view of this on the flip side, i also can see tru shard and pezdel's ideas and how they would make sense here however, this song seems to be in relation to the topic that he writes about in fake palindromes and continues on this idea of a female murderess/femme fatal figure what ever way you look at it, great song from Bird |

| The Good Life – Notes in His Pockets Lyrics | 18 years ago |

also another idea nobody has touched on is the possibility of there being two different instances. one with the old home town girl and then it seems there could be a possible unsaid measure of time when he talks about his ex being back in town. like maybe refering to the same girl as the first part of the song that he cheated on and then they broke up and she's back in town now and "drunk at the bar" also this would further explain "what's worse" about his ex being back in town is that he knows if he can go see her something will happen between them again to re-surface further complications. i have come close to this type of failure in very similar situations with previous relationships but luckily have avoided most of them. great way of putting it, Tim. |

| Andrew Bird – Imitosis Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
i watched a dutch interview with him and he talks for a bit about how he was beat up a lot growing up and bullied i guess in school i think a lot of this song deals with that and how "we are all basically alone" in many social settings today and how hostile schools and institutions can be. "in this nature show that rages every day" |

| Andrew Bird – Opposite Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |

i think that is an overall epic concept all together. AB is a mastermind also that bit at the end always makes me laugh. not completely sure what it is about but i have some of my own ideas. also that excerpt up there is probably full of errors and bad grammar im sure some of you might notice but just keep in mind im a high school student and you are better than me and i already know that so thank you very much ha hope that provides lots of you with some good insight about this wonderful AB song |

| Andrew Bird – Opposite Day Lyrics | 18 years ago |

alright here is my interpretation of this song. i actually spent quite a while thinking about this and measuring cups (which has a pretty clear meaning) but i was thinking about these songs and how they are so relevant to eachother because they pertained to a research paper i was writing about american institutions. measuring cups sets up this idea of there being a hierarchy in a very homogenous, hostile adult world that sets a standard for children and measures their abilities and predisposes them based on these tests and conditions that they are issued. here is an excerpt from my research paper that kind of explains the idea of there being an opposite day: "This is an idea that asks what,'if this keeps occurring until the majority of society has been deemed as unintelligent?', but since they are now the majority, they now run the world that helped them find their accidental position of power. It is believed that if this problem continues, one day "those who cannot quite function in society at large [are] going to wake up on this morning and find that [they] [are] in charge, while those the world [is] set up for who are really doing quite well [are] going to wake up in institutions; in prison or in hell" ("Opposite Day"). It is quite an interesting idea to think about how severe this has already become and then to further wonder weather or not such a situation as an "Opposite Day" is possible." i hope that makes sense to other people. sometimes my ideas are very abstract once transfered to paper (or online lyric forums in this case). |

| The Good Life – Your Share of Men Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
at first glance this song is about a male character trying to persue a female who is currently engaged in some coexisting relationship and how he trys to persuade her to "forget about [her] man" and to not "seccond guess, just take [his] hand" thats just without really thinking into it too much though |

| Murder by Death – The Devil in Mexico Lyrics | 18 years ago |

yeah its actually not Gerard Way in the end screaming but Geoff Rickley from Thursday. Geoff actually "discovered" MBD years ago i believe after they had released "Like the Exeorcist..." and helped some with production on "who will survive" (thats why he appears in this song). murder by death ended up playing some shows with thursday because of this connection and appeared on various tours with them as well |
