so there is a version of this song on Fingerlings 4 that has the same instrumental basis of the song but Bird adds part of 'trimmed and burning' in the middle as a vocal melody but there are a few new lyrics added to the beginning before the "keep your light trimmed and burning" hook comes in.

I know what you're talking about. The added lyrics are a bit of a new song he's been working on, along with others for a new album - or at least that what he said at a conference he held in Lisbon. So my guess is that he just mixed it up on that performance. Oh and the soon to be released song it's called "Jesus is a Dying Bed Maker".
