Wayward, thats exactly it. The narrator and this girl use to 'tear it down' as in have a really good time together but then they must have had a break up. He wants to try it again with her, but she is too focused on his mistakes and won't look passed the past. He is different now, but she won't see that.
Then again, my interpretation is probably bias because this is whats going in my life. It could be about the media and emo music. |

like SouthernPunk777 said, its about Christian and most likely Billie. The chorus, especially the line "desperate but not hopeless", shows us that the narrator is desperately fighting for a change. Even though things look bad, the struggle is "not hopeless". Everything else is pretty obvious. The lines "This empty laughter
Has no reason
Like a bottle
Of your favorite poison"
A little confusing a first, but think of it this way : having a bottle of poison isn't a reasonable thing. So the laughter is just as crazy/unreasonable or without foundation. |

wow i suddenly got this idea of this guy hooking up with this way younger girl.Then they sort of start to date. Its all cool until he realizes the impact of this decision and how society (especially family, friends and coworkers) look down on this type of relationship. still, i think hobophobe has it. |

alright, honestly i do think it is a love song. my interpretation is this: boy and girl fall in love. it goes well for a while, but the guy's destructive behaviour makes him decide to break up with this girl. hence "i still love you girl but i'm not the answer to your questions" meaning she deserves better. Meanwhile, she says " i want to save you" meaning she wants to save him from himself, for example his alcohol/suicidal/going nowhere in life/or combination of all. |

i believe its mostly about the corruption within our capitalist society (as is most of the album). he's saying that the corporate world is ruining the true beauty of things, even love, and we point the finger at anyone just to shift the blame. |

yo i can't believe everyone missed the Abbie Hoffman reference here. 'Amerikan dream' is talking about Hoffman's book, Steal This Book. (some of you might know 'Steal this album' from system of a down. they got the inspiration for the name from this book,) The book preaches a revolution against capitalism. perhaps an earlier version of anarchist cookbook but much more thought out. |
