| Beirut – The Shrew Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I don't even understand how there aren't any comments on this song yet, but I feel ever so grateful to be the first. The Shrew is one of Zach Condon's favorite works [as noted by hmi on release] and whatever reason he has is probably much more personal, but I can't help but give credit where credit is due. The horn fanfare on this track is amazing, and his vocals are so sharp and cut in at exactly the right time. As far as the meaning is concerned, I don't want it to seem convoluted, so I'll keep my thoughts simple. The shrew, by definition, is a temperamental woman. Specific events or symbols are difficult for me to pick out, but obviously they've been together a while. The stable becoming retired may be a symbol for the end of a relationship, a home, a way of life. Whatever the meaning I can't help but think of the lines from Cherbourg: A fall from you is a long way down, but Ive found a better way out. |

| Thrice – The Lion and the Wolf Lyrics | 17 years ago |
|
I think a lot of people overlooked the meaning in "...the wolf cleans up the mess" he's not cleaning he's finishing the carcass. I though that was straight forward... I agree in part with dubbaewwteeeff: I believe the wolf is a wolf in sheeps clothing. [how else would he make it into your bed?] False sense of security given in mocking man's best friend. And the known betrayal that he wants the same as the lion. I believe the wolf represents anything deceiving and hurtful, where the lion represents the obvious harm. This could be applied to anything such as drug addiction, alcoholism or any of the things WTF mentioned. |

| Thrice – The Messenger Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| The whole song is the story of Isaiah, there's nothing to argue, from kissing coals and saying, "Send me!" Saying that they won't understand his faith. The song can be interpreted to fit your life anywhich way you want, but the origin of the lyrics is clear. | |
| Thrice – Moving Mountains Lyrics | 17 years ago |

1 Corinthians 13 Love 1If I speak in the tongues[a] of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. 3If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames,[b] but have not love, I gain nothing. 4Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. 8Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10but when perfection comes, the imperfect disappears. 11When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put childish ways behind me. 12Now we see but a poor reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known. 13And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. The greatest of these is love because in the afterlife there will be no need for faith or hope. |

Clearly a writer giving up something precious to him, for something more precious to him, burning his books to keep someone warm. A selfless sacrifice. Love. |

| Owen Pallett – The Arctic Circle Lyrics | 17 years ago |

Can we talk about how catchy this song is? It's invaded my head for days: "She's got a heart that will never melt, she's got a heart that will never never melt!" |

| Thrice – Don't Tell And We Won't Ask Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I've read over comments on probably every Thrice song by this point, and people need to stop relating everything to George Bush and the war in Iraq. Seriously, everyone gets so involved with all that garbage it's no wonder the war is still raging, do you have any idea how much money the media makes reporting and advertising for the war? | |
| Thrice – The Melting Point of Wax Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Just so everyone knows, that dude that posted earlier was definately wrong. Wax does have a melting point. If something melts it has a melting point. Ice melts quicker in hotter temperatures. So does wax. Depending on the blend of wax and it's ingredients the melting point changes. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wax [check the external links] |

@ Mello_harsher The seed and the spill refers to both the orgasm and pulling out. The whole song has a double or more meaning. |

| Portugal. The Man – The Bottom Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I can't begin to decipher this song, so I'll break it down piece by piece and see if someone can add to my ramblings to make sense of this song. "How High Soldiers pull boys through rain Ground to their toes Ground to the dirt" Obvious visual imagery. You can picture the kid being dragged by a soldier and the boy's tattered shoes. "Oh my They spilled down the steps Filed in rows like hair likes to pour Like skin loves to warm But teeth don't pull like these chains don't drag around Because it's safe at the bottom" "They" is possibly the soldiers? But I don't like the obvious content of war, I think it may be metaphorical which would also make the chorus easier to fit in. "But teeth don't pull like these chains don't drag around" That line in particular I can't seem to make sense of, the chains of the prisoners, "teeth don't pull"... hmm... "I know what I know And all I ever need is you" Should this song be about war, possibly the trust of the captive placed in a god? This line is actually wrong "But just don't pay like these guns don't fuck around" it should be "trust", like the guns are no joke, and are killing people, the trust in friends? Family? Government? God? becomes worthless to the singer. |

| Portugal. The Man – Oh Lord Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
"fell from her to ground... we're all gone to strip that ground." Resources, we're here to strip it, as humans? Seems to be a running theme, as well as fire being problems, we being that fire would make sense. Obviously another running theme of losing freedom. Thoughts, mind, soul, body. |

| Portugal. The Man – Sun Brother Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I can't make out a few words, I fiddled with my EQ and picked out a good chunk of it. "___ lifting their legs and ___ send me a ___ i know these feet can take it no more i take my toll trouble will worry their ___ no more it's a worry for their ___ that smash" |

Sickest song on the album, by far. Church Mouth second. |

Lyrics straight out of the booklet: "Leave as fast as you came without a sound nothing to ruffle your ends I've been wandering around making up movies in my head-so we say don't let it go Let me try and pull out pride I already forget how I used to feel about you Leave as fast as you came, no invitation, nowhere to go from hear [spelled incorrectly on purpose?] I've been wandering around wondering how I got so Fuckin' boring all the sudden so fuckin' scared... I'm not you'd mean so much more to me if I remembered." Typed with 100% accuracy. |

| Thrice – Night Diving Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I think he says "Take me to the surface." And I think maybe the distortion is his struggle back to the top? and at 5:11 the sound i think is him finally surfacing, reminded me of the sound when you got an air bubble in sonic the hedgehog 2, for the genesis. | |
| Emery – As Your Voice Fades Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| I myself am a Christian, and I think everyone posting thus far is an idiot. You christian people who are hellbent on claiming this song for Jesus, give up. He clearly gives the person who died a sense of urgency. About living with that person, and very physical traits to thier relationship. Clearly NOT JESUS. And to you people who feel the need to bash Christian beliefs, DIAF. There are a few idiots like the ones you see here, but keep your closed minds to yourselves, no need to hate on what other people think, we're talking about a song anyhow, not religion. | |
